United States Takes WJC Gold In Thrilling 6-5 Overtime Finish

Congratulations to both teams, as that was one of the most exciting hockey games I have watched in a long, long time.
Jack Campbell was terrific in net, channeling his inner Dominek Hasek on countless occasions to make 32 saves after starter Mike Lee was pulled; Campbell is 17 years old and draft eligible next season. Forward Derek Stepan (NYR) received player of the game honors for the United States, with forwards Tyler Johnson (FA) and Jerry D'Amigo (TOR) joining Stepan for Head Coach Dean Blais' selection of Players of The Tournament honors.
With a 5-3 lead heading into the final ten minutes of the third, the United States was subject to a questionable goalie interference call on Ducks prospect Kyle Palmieri (Sharks fans will remember him as the pick that travelled 4,305 miles); we could make a joke here about him eventually replacing Corey Perry, but will refrain. Team Canada manages to knock two in the back of the net in the ensuing minutes, with both coming off the stick of miracle worker Jordan Eberle (EDM).
In overtime the pace was frantic, as Team USA attempted to avoid a shootout with Team Canada who has been dominant in the skills competition throughout recent history. After a save by Campbell off of Blues prospect Alex Pietrangelo roughly four minutes in, the Americans headed down the ice on a 2 on 1. John Carlson (WAS) managed to slip one through short side with a rocket of a wrister, all the while squaring up to center ice to keep Canadian goaltender Martin Jones (LAK) aware of a potential cross-ice pass.
It was a no-look shot for the ages, and yet another classic between these two teams. Peruse the FTF Live Thread if you're interested, and be sure to check Puck Daddy throughout the day as Bruce Peter has done a bang up job of covering the tournament throughout it's entire duration.
USA Hockey's home page will obviously have more.
Here's to hoping the magic continues a little over a month from now.
Go USA.

Any Sharks prospects on either team?
Or in the tourney? Still, I gotta say: U-S-A! U-S-A!

Not if you count the possibility that we could have had Palmieri. Although I’m not sure about the Sharks owning the rights to any foreign prospects not playing in North America, I’d have to assume it’s doubtful.
Lots of potentially future Kings though. Call for Chicken Little commence!

No Sharks prospects on either of tonight's teams
However, Marek Viedensky, the Sharks 2nd round pick from last year, was on the Slovakian junior team and had an ok tournament. HF had an article on him that can be found here along with an audio clip of an interview with him that is somewhat difficult to parse.
Amazing win!
I fully expected to take it in the ear from my Canadian buddies tomorrow, but now the tables have turned! USA…USA…USA!

USA!!!!!
We’ll all be chanting that alot very soon (minus one very vocal member). Very fun game to watch. Definitely a questionable penalty. We’ve seen those types before and they are annoying to no end. Do the refs just see one part of that action (selective blinders)? But great that USA could look beyond that and WIN!

Checking in from Grenoble, and...
USA! USA! USA!
I’m just going to ignore that game yesterday, which I didn’t watch or hear about until it was over for a few hours so I assume it didn’t even happen. Actually, the only hockey I’ve seen the past five days or so was one game of the Spengler Cup, which was kind of boring and I think was in German.

T'was a battle
When USA went up two goals in the third it was very sweet but there was just this feeling that the lead wasn’t safe. Canada struck for two late goals to tie it up and the crowd was so loud the players didn’t hear the final horn and the refs and to physically skate in front of them waving their arms. The building was thunderous. In OT John Carlson was skating up the ice with an odd man advantage and Carlson squared his shoulders to pass and gave what looked like a no look shot and scored the winning goal that shut that crowd right down. It was the first time I’d ever heard Saskatoon crickets chirping.
Awesome.
I'll drink that! oh...I'll drink TO that.
Good win for Team USA
But Russia is not dropping any games to Switzerland in February.
Magic will not continue.
Who knows
We weren’t exactly suppose to win the under 17’s or the under 20’s either.
After watching a few of the world jr. games I’m even more pumped for the Olympics.
The US could be a dark horse...
If Ryan Miller is on his game, and with two-way forwards like Pavelski and Kesler on the team, the US will be a tough team to score on.

What’s the interesting is that the last time Russia had a flop like this at Juniors tournament was back in 2004, when our team was likely the most talented since the late 80s – with Malkin, Ovechkin and Semin leading the show, as we lost to Finland in quarter final.
Over confidence is a bad thing.
I think at this level of competition
Anything can happen. The stars align and Norway makes it to a Bronze medal game.
Who knows!
