Gameday Thread: Islanders @ Sharks

New York Islanders at San Jose Sharks, Nov 11, 2010 7:30 PM PST

So I was having a debate with my lady friend last night. The answer is simple-- vote with your heart, because that's what got you here.

Go Sharks.

Journey is a good band, quite above average I'd say, but they are not great.

I think we lost that game. IIRC, it was against the Carolina Hurricanes and we lost in the shootout. I was there.

She thinks Journey sucks. It’s horrifying to me.

One of the best moments I’ve had was driving to HP Pavilion for a playoff game and “Seperate Ways” just blowing the car’s speakers to kingdom come. Chills.

I’ve soured on it because I had it stuck in my head from the moment I woke up all the way until I went to sleep one day. I had a midterm that day, too, and I was like, “Hmmm, to fully optimize this I should use a 2-to-1 mux and a half-ad-WHEN THE LIGHTS GO DOWN IN THE CITY”. That got really annoying, really fast.

"Lights" is mine, as well.

Totally different reason, though. It happened to come on to KFox as I was driving south from SFO after dropping my then-girlfriend-now-fiancée off for a two month long business trip. Given that I had been staying at her place near the SF/Daly City border and was headed to my dad’s in the South Bay for two months, it felt so in sync with how I was feeling at the time it basically permanently burned the memory into my brain. I associate the song with her every time I hear it.

I saw Journey live about six years ago, with their replacement young-guy lead singer, not Steve Perry. They were part of a concert featuring famous Bay Area bands or guitarists or something, and I only agreed to go because I wanted to see Testament – we showed up too late though, and we missed them. Instead I watched Montrose (good) Y&T (terrible) and Journey (ironically good).

So in summary, Go Sharks!

As a guy, I’ll admit I have very little flirting skills—but then the guys I do see flirting are like obnoxious or not smooth at all. Foreign guys (OK, Europeans, right?) might have the tendency to seem smarmy, but I think the smoothness is more often there.

C’mon Sharks, we know you can play better!
I hope they come out ready to play in the 2nd (and 3rd), and win.
If Sharks can win, and Dallas lose by 3 or more, it’ll propel the Sharks into the 8th spot. C’MON Sharks!

Its the right play, you can use the goalie to pass to teammates as well. D men typically take the pass which means the puck carrier should be taking the shot. Given the two forwards I’m happy he took that shot actually.

My issue isn’t with Seto taking the shot. It’s where he shot it. Why not shoot low to the left and maybe set up a rebound chance. Even up high isn’t bad… but he just shot it right into Roloson’s chest. Not even Niemi’s going to give up a goal like that.

I’m planning on bringing my boys down to practice tomorrow. Anyone know a good place for lunch? I’ll be with a 6 and 8 year old and Momma doesn’t want McD’s!! Should we just eat at Stanley’s? Is that expensive?

Stanleys is overpriced and mediocre and the service can be spotty

There’s a couple of Pho places along 10th that are decent. If you head down Alma until it becomes Minnesota, it’ll take you to Lincoln, and that’s downtown Willow Glen. There’s a Pizza My Heart, some Greek and Italian places, and a decent Chinese place at Bird and Willow.

Generally true, I think.

Though I’d throw Mondo Burrito near Santa Clara University and Beach Burrito in San Francisco in as exceptions. Both pretty clean places that still have damn good Mexican food.

AWESOME!!

I knew someone would lead me to good places. I’ve map quested Willow Street Pizza and Aqui. But maybe ending up in Willow Glen is a good bet. Those sound kid-friendly

That’s my point by posting the comparison, it’s not that bad, just the playing. The whole Western conference is way ahead of the Eastern in points, so the Sharks are further down the standings with their record compared to the averages. Last season at this point the Sharks were in the middle of an 11-1-3 run, though.

It seems like the West is playing the East a lot at the moment, too. Things may shake out to normal a bit when the Best Conference stops picking on the lesser sibling and starts infighting.
