Albany spears Worcester in shoot-out

Matt Anderson scored in round five of the shoot-out, moments after tying the game with 43-seconds left in the third period, to help lift the Albany Devils {6-3-0-0; 12 points} over the Worcester Sharks {4-3-1-2; 11 points} 3-2 Friday night at the DCU Center in Worcester.

After a fast and furious first period that was both scoreless and penalty free, Albany's Nick Palmieri broke the scoreless streak in the second period to put Albany up 1-0.  Palmieri skated down the right wing side and ripped a shot from the right face-off circle that beat Worcester goalie Carter Hutton through the 5-hole at 7:36 of the period. The goal was the first of the season for Palmieri, who tallied 21 goals last season for the then Lowell Devils. David McIntryre was credited with the only assist on the play.

Nearly five-minutes later, Worcester's Tommy Wingels tied the game with his fourth goal of the season and third goal in two games at the 12:16 mark. Wingels, who was three-feet on top of the crease, buried home a bouncing puck with backhand shot passed scrambling Albany goalie Mike McKenna, who had blocked the initial shot by Worcester's Jonathan Cheechoo.

Early in the third period, Albany was assessed a two-minute bench minor for "too many men" and on the ensuing power play, Cheechoo put Worcester up 2-1 with his fourth goal of the season. Doing a give-and-go with Worcester rookie James Marcou, Cheechoo ripped a laser-beam from the right face-off circle dot that blew past McKenna and rang off the iron before settling in the net.

However, Albany would respond late in the period and tie the game on Anderson's second goal of the season at 19:13. After pulling McKenna for an extra skater, Anderson skated to the center slot from the left wall and fired a shot as teammate Adam Henrique set a screen in front of Hutton. Tim Sestito and Mattias Tendeby were credited with assists on the goal.

Hutton {1-0-1}, making his DCU Center debut and second consecutive start for Worcester, stopped 23 shots while McKenna {2-2-0} stopped 25 for Albany.

Worcester will be back in action Saturday night when they host the Manchester Monarchs at the DCU Center. Puck drops at 7 p.m/et.
