The Olympics kicked off last night with a (rather weird) opening ceremony, and I couldn't be more pumped for international hockey to begin. It's truly a great moment to be a sports fan. We'll have a tonne of coverage here on Fear The Fin, so be sure to continue to swing by as you go about your daily lives.
Buffalo is a good team who has struggled of late, which is a shame considering Ryan Miller will be spearheading the Americans' quest for gold. The Sharks aren't desperate for points right now, so my main wish is for everyone to stay healthy and make sure they will be able to play for their country this upcoming week. I'd like to say that the eight Olympic representatives the Sharks will be sending to Vancouver will play as if tonight was the postseason, but if they mail it in I really won't care*.
*Hopefully you feel the same way about this post.
Prediction: Sharks win 1-0 in the shootout. Game winner by Pavelski. Miller (I bet he doesn't start tonight, but I'm playing it safe) gets hot as hell and doesn't give up a goal for the next month.
Go Sharks.

I hope so.

I second that notion
He and Nabby are the goalies on one of my fantasy teams. I’ve lost a grand total of 4 goaltending games all year in that league.

How could you possibly mail in this post?
I’m so disappointed in you guys.
I’m super amazingly excited about the Winter Olympics, but had to miss the opening ceremonies since I went bowling for the first time ever and did better than my roommate. (And I hate jwizzle241 for making the first post while I was typing this.) I wouldn’t be surprised if NBC completely messed up the coverage again though. What did you folks think of it?
Sadly, I also just found out that my house’s satellite package doesn’t have MSNBC, which, from my understanding, is where all the hockey games will be televised. (I can understand not having Versus since I’m the only person who likes hockey, but what kind of satellite package has Fox News, CNN and no MSNBC?)
On a more on topic matter, is anyone else expecting a big game from Seto some time soon? He’s been looking really good the last few games and I just have a feeling that he’s on the verge of something big.
Suck it.

But seriously, don’t feel bad. The overnight shift can be crazy boring for a DJ. I pounced on this post. (btw, I’m a radio DJ, not a wiki-wiki DJ)

asterisk
what station do you DJ on?
Puck Daddy: You would definitely hate the Ducks more than you'd hate the Kings, right?
Joe Pavelski: Yeah, definitely.
that's the name. obvious after some sleep.

Olympics - USA vs Swedishville
Doing a little poking around on the Directv schedule and I’m showing Tuesday’s USA vs Sweden airing on USA AND USA-HD channels, which works out nicely since I’m not showing an HD channel for MSNBC for Directv subscribers.
This will be tape delayed?
I'll drink that! oh...I'll drink TO that.

I'm trying to figure that out too
Women’s hockey IS starting today at the time listed (noon pst) It’s on CNBC, but hey, no tape delay!
It’s Sweden v Switzerland

Hey Plank
You mentioned potentially going to Danny K’s to watch some Olympic hockey a couple months back, you still down for that?

I am I am. If Team USA makes it to the medal round, let’s plan on two weekends from now. Otherwise I don’t know if it will be worth the travel costs for me.

Crap, I think I just realized I’m going to be in Tahoe for the medal rounds (26th-28th)

Douche.
If plans change though, let me know. I might see if Sleek and Spade are interested regardless.

Oh you know it
They are totally going to mail this game in. But I think I will be a shootout instead. Some sort of like 6-3 or 6-5 dunkfest/allstar game/ capitals game with poor defense and light checking. I would start Greiss. Hey, the Germans have a shot!!
I miss the Jack Daniels shot of the night and the San Jose Sharks drinking game. But I do not miss Marty McSorely.

Still annoyed that NBC tape delayed us. I’m on the same damn side of the continent as Vancouver, guys!

Hahaha, seriously. We’re in the SAME FREAKING TIMEZONE as Vancouver, and are getting tape delayed. I guess its important that the jackholes in New York see things live. Can’t they just run it like ESPN, and have things get aired at whatever time they are happening, regardless of timezone? I mean, seriously. Really kinda frusterating.

This.
It pisses me off so much. I honestly do not care what time it is on, I just do not want us to be tape delayed and already know what happens before we watch.

Miller’s play as of late actually really worries me from a US standpoint. He was such a rock earlier this season that it appeared that the US might have a shot if he was on his game. But dude has been pretty bad lately. And with the blueline the US is sending to Vancouver, I’m not particularly optimistic. Here’s to hoping they at least make it out of their group…
As for the game tonight, I’m going to miss it, but I’m not too torn up over it. We just beat the freaking Red Wings! If some of our boys are looking forward to the Olympics after a big win like that, I won’t blame them.
But, as always, GO SHARKS!

GO SHARKS!
Got 50 bones on this game ’cause I hate BUF…let me win another fiddy! :D
Side note: opening ceremony was lame thumbs down. Whales were the only remotely cool thing.

GO SHARKS!
Not to jinx us (since I’m the only one who apparently doesn’t believe in such things), but a win tonight will have us reaching 90 first.

The last sharks game got me very wasted and large amounts of sex.
So uh, GO SHARKS!

McGinn has been called up for today's game.
The Worcester Telegram has an interesting story on his call-up.
The life of a young hockey player can be interesting, to say the least.
Yay Sharks

off topic butt..
what do you think of re-signing cheech since he got cleared? that would be good for him and we could probably get him for a reasonable price.
Cheech would cost us $1.5M per season if we picked him up on re-entry waivers. No idea who we would move to make that happen.

I got drunk as shit watching Sweden-Switzerland today. Just thought I’d share.

Speaking of priorities, I still need to do that Q&A for you. I’ll try and fit it in later today.
Apologies bruva.
Fear The Fin: Where Selling Your Soul Is The Likely Solution
No problem.
I did it on the golf blog today, next one goes up next Saturday so no rush, I just need to get ’em scheduled on Friday.

Completely OT
But both Ghostbusters movies are on Hulu. I’ve been having a pre-game Ghostbusters marathon today, haha. It’s awesome.

Check out the Olympic ice hockey athletes profiles. It’s endless entertainment. Among other things, they have Brooks Orpik’s nickname listed as “Free Candy,” and Saku Koivu’s nickname as “Fireball.”
