Mike Moore gets two year extension
According to capgeek.com, Mike Moore has signed a two year contract extension worth $1.25MM. The cap hit sits at $512,000 for a full NHL season, starting in 2010. As mymclife pointed out below, the second year of the deal is one-way, so he's guaranteed NHL pay (thanks Evilducks) that year. I still stand by the notion that the one way deal means that San Jose believes he'll be in the NHL in 2011-2012.
Moore is known as a physical, stay at home defenseman. By most accounts, he would have seen some time with the big club this year if not for an injury that took a good part of his season from him. In 38 AHL games this year, he has 1 goal, 11 assists, and is a +5 on the season. Moore is the Sharks 9th ranked prospect according to Hockey's Future.
This is interesting because Wilson usually doesn't negotiate contracts midseason, but maybe he has different rules when it comes to AHL players.
I'll update this post as moore (ugh) news comes out of Worcester.

Hell yeah, good signing. Moore has had a nice year down in Worcester. I could see him sliding into a bottom pairing role next year depending on how free agency shakes out.

Nice! I like it! Moore could be a solid Defensive minded D-man for us next year. Pair him with like a Demers, and we have a pair of D-men who could grow together into something pretty good. It’ll be nice to seem him for a full healthy year (hopefully).

Good signing. I’ve heard good things about him, including that the only reason he’s not on the Worcester shuttle is because his cap hit is around $1M, and the Sharks don’t exactly have that space. They probably told him he’ll for sure get NHL time next season if he signs a contract for a smaller amount, and so that’s what he did.
It actually reminds me a lot of the Greiss contract – near league minimum and for multiple years in exchange for guaranteed NHL playing time.

Apparently, the second year is a one-way contract, so yeah, he’s guaranteed NHL time. But like I said, that guaranteed NHL spot makes him willing to sign for near league minimum, so I’m fine with it.

Well, that doesn’t guarantee him NHL time, it guarantee’s him NHL pay.
While it sounds like he took a pay cut to make it to the NHL, actually having a one way contract guarantee’s him a decent payday compared to what he had been making in the NHL (probably about what I make right now…)

I like it. I really like Plank’s idea of putting him next to Demers and letting them grow up together, filling out the role of Boyle/Murray 2.0

That was ZeroIndulgence’s idea but what the hell, I’ll take credit :)
I concur though. It’s a good, cheap bottom pairing that should compliment each other well provided the Sharks decide to fill out the backend internally.

I guess my idea was so good, I was easily confused for our illustrious blogfather. An honor, to be sure…

Question
Is his contract in 2011/12 a one way contract because of his age? Much like Brad Staubitz this season. Could this be a CBA thing?

Don't think so
There are older players with 2 way contracts. All this allows teams to do is pay a player significantly less money while playing in the AHL. The waiver rules apply the same way to a player no matter the type of contract they hold. It comes down to age and games played in the NHL.
