Bringing in Kovy
I know we need better D, but who can't dream about this deal:
Clowe - Pickles - Huskins - 2nd round pick for Kovy - Christoph Schubert
I mean who needs better D when you could have a top six of:
Marleau - Thornton - Heatley
Kovalchuk - Pavelski - Seto/Malholtra
I did all the numbers on capgeek and it works. We would have just enough room to bring up McLaren and McGinn if we wanted to.
I'm probably crazy but that would be awesome!

As I mentioned here, I’ll take a look at it tomorrow.
Kovy is enticing, but I think shoring up our blueline takes precedence. And I doubt Kovy could be had for that package, especially with Vlasic injured right now. You’d at least need Setoguchi in there and a first.
Schubert is not someone I’m a fan of.

We would definitely be taking a step backwards defensively losing Vlasic, and Schubert is thrown in for cap reasons. Our bottom two D pairings start looking questionable as well:
Murray-Boyle
Blake-Demers (slowsky w/ error magnet)
Leach-Joslin-Schubert (who knows how this would work out – I imagine not well)
Still – to have 3 of the top 6 goal scorers would be exciting

Defense wins championships.
Isn’t that the phrase uttered every year?

I’d say that really consistant, deep scoring wins championships in hockey (have we seen Lemaire or Tippet win a Cup recently? But we have seen Crosby/Malkin, Datsyuk/Zetterberg win). But only to a point. I mean, when your defense is so bad it is giving up 6 goals a game, I’m not even sure having Kovy, Marleau, and Heatley on the team will be able to make up for that…

With nabby in there, I dont see us giving up more than 3 or 4 a game no matter what on any average night…
Still. I say we go for a good, solid, defenseman. We shore up that 2nd defensive line, and we can toy with line 3 a little bit more till we find a good pairing going into the playoffs.
We have all the offense we need. let some 6th-8th seed east coast team get Kovy… we’ll stick with what we have and go for the championship with as balanced a team as we can have…

OK, so defense and third line scoring contributions
win championships.
Not quite as succinct, but true all the same.

Sounds great :)
Then trade Shelley and Seto to Cgy for one of their good D and we got ourselves a deal :)

Shelley’s trade value is basically nonexistent.

After looking at salaries the only players that I think the Sharks would put in play are Clowe, Vlasic, or Huskins – anyone else has a great cap hit are would not open enough salary to bring a significant piece in.
Then again what do I know

i really don't think we can spare any of our D...
unless we get someone in return. Kovy is pure gold, but he isn’t going to be helping our D much.
And on trade speculation… how does team morale play into it (Dmitriy’s post above gave me the idea about this)? If we end up trading like 6 regulars for 1 or 2 new faces, would team morale take a blow? I know it’s about winning, but it’s about chemistry too? Just an idea.
I’m not seeing much room to maneuver here, unless we give up a first round draft pick.

Good point...
We want a few new guys but most people must stay so the team has chemistry left..I say trade away only the really needed pieces for good ones in return, but Condition’s right…
Go Sharks!

All right guys
We need to make fanposts about getting other superstars. They clearly induce GMs to trade the subjects of such fanposts out of fear of being fleeced by Doug Wilson. How about a Bringing in Keith and Seabrook post, or perhaps Bringing in Lidstrom.
