Around SBN: The Infuriating Jose Molina

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN sheds a little light on the Wallin situation, which was one of the weirdest non-trades in Sharks history.

Previous reports stated that trade talks stalled when an extension couldn't be ironed out. That didn't make any sense, since Wilson has a consistent rule of not talking contracts during the regular season.

That was the case, as it appears as if Wilson would not extend Wallin as part of this trade. Wallin wasn't too keen on that, and with Wilson's refusal on an extension, the trade never went through.

[Update]:
WTC reports trade talks are back on.

I'm curious what was offered to the 'Canes.

I heard the Canes were very keen on Joslin.

Wallin is such a prude... give it up already!

We’re going to have to start feeding him wine coolers.

Interesting piece by LeBrun.

Interesting, yet not too surprising to see that Whitney could have gone to the Kings, when the contender was reported to be the Pens. Weird.

I feel like he’s going to have to score a hat trick in his first game otherwise the entire fanbase will be disappointed.

All joking aside, this is weird, but I’m sure it goes on a lot behind closed doors throughout the league. It’s kind of unfortunate that it went public so early in the negotiations.

That and the fact that he’s a third pairing defenseman. Sure he’s got value, but this is something you’d expect for a premier player with multiple suitors. San Jose is the only one involved right now by the looks of things.

Ehh… I’m hoping this doesn’t get done. I don’t like one bit of it.

OT

Right now the Pens are playing the Caps. Ovechkin has a 3 goals and Crosby has 2. I think it’s an NHL conspiracy against Patrick Marleau.

Winning the Richard trophy is tough, especially against a healthy Ovechkin. Kudos to Patrick to stay in the lead for as long as he has.

I’m going to get all Earl Sleek here, and hope that Marleau breaks 50, but doesn’t get the hardware so the Sharks can afford to resign him. In fact, no individual hardware for any Shark! But I want the performance!

I don't get it

Why are we still pursuing this trade?

Why indeed

Waillin solves no problems. Id rather use joslin, who hasnt been good, than pay for another 3rd line D. And if we give up mitchell who has played the 3rd/4th line center role very well, im gonna be pissed. I think if we dumped huskins joslin and possibly clowe for waillin and whitney i might be ok. gleason and whitney tho…. Wishfull thinking.

In the latest WTC update Pollak says:

Those Niclas Wallin trade talks? No reason to think they’re not continuing today.

Not a huge update, but at least talks are still going on.
