I don’t like it when any player is injured, especially on a dirty hit. Sure, I don’t like Campbell, but still. That sort of thing needs to be eliminated. Luckily Ovechkin has entered Pronger territory and has a good chance of getting suspended. Not that I wish for any player to be suspended, much less one as dynamic as Ovechkin, but those things deserve to be punished, no matter who dishes out the hit.

Sorry, just am completely against dirty hits, no matter who it’s by or who it’s on.

It was a hockey play, he was trying to get Campbell off the puck, not a dirty hit IMO (i.e. no intent to injure). It was just an unfortunate consequence, where he should have gotten the game misconduct. A suspension here would be over the line.

"I want people to be afraid of how much they love me." ~Michael Scott

by ZeroIndulgence on Mar 14, 2010 5:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Hadn't Campbell already released the puck?

Also, anytime you are near the boards, I believe it’s on the man making the hit to protect the man he’s hitting. Shoving a man towards the boards when he’s exposed is not a hockey play IMO. Wrap him up and take him in.

he aleady had

and if you watch the hit objectively, it looks very much like the hit on Nichol. I can’t cheer for that, doesn’t matter who gets hit.

Yes, he did get rid of the puck before OV got there. But, at least in my view, it was pretty bang bang. I see it as part of that fine line of we don’t want dirty hits, but we don’t want to eliminate tough hockey either. I dunno, everyone will see it different.

"I want people to be afraid of how much they love me." ~Michael Scott

by ZeroIndulgence on Mar 14, 2010 5:16 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't want hits gone either

But that’s just careless in my view. Shoving a man that close to the boards is just a bad play. It’s a play with a lack of respect.

by ElvisVF101 on Mar 14, 2010 5:17 PM PDT up reply actions

It was also squarely in the numbers. Hit him hard, fine, but not like that.

Of the two, I think the slew foot on Crosby today was worse.

No argument about that from me. Downie should get at least 5 games for that – there was clearly an intent to injure there, and not a hockey play gone wrong.

Our regular season form

Has nothing to do with post-season form. Teams with an identity do well in April, May and June, teams with good habits. I don’t see many good habits when the team plays 15 minutes a night of good hockey and lollygags the rest of the time. That’s fine in a one of game against a Florida or Nashville.

In 7 games against Detroit? Against Chicago? No thanks.

If anything

The Sharks have exposed the Duck’s underlying weakness, which frankly they’ve had since the Cup run:

They are a grossly undisciplined hockey team. If you can kill the penalties, great, because you’ve got so much offensive talent. If not, it’s hard to win games when you’re always killing penalties.

problem is,

the ducks can just sit back and trap (its a trap!!!) and then post 3 guys around hiller to block shots, and keep our forwards to the perimeter to take low % shots. this game is now game 6 of the 2009 playoffs. lots of shots that a butterfly goalie is perfectly skilled to block. i would be surprised to see a comeback.

but maybe a 3-4 game losing streak would be ok. in fact, i wouldnt mind sj going into the playoffs 2nd seed (even 3rd seed). need to build some fighting momentum the last 2 weeks.

That’s Carlyle’s gameplan too. Dude is a goddamn master at holing leads.

As for going in as a 1/2/3 seed, I don’t really have any strong feelings either way, as long as it helps us avoid Detroit. Hard to see San Jose dropping to the 3 seed though, they’d have to really shit the bed down the stretch, and that fighting momentum would look more like a team who has melted down.

indeed

3rd spot is a longshot. i think this team has enough vet experience to avoid the complete meltdown, and maybe that bit of bitter defeat would give them that necessary chip on their shoulder.

*sigh*

I don’t know whether to be happy about that goal or not.

Makes the game looks closer than it’s been.

Goal and assist for McGinn.
Plank and Gray must be very happy.

For some reason I have a feeling Jumbo is going to be a goddamn beast this year. Sharks are going to be tied 1-1 in the series going on the road for game three in the first round, and five minutes into the second he is just going to take over. ~Plank

You know what

I’ve “forgotten” so many other games this season, what’s one more.

And the post-Olympic/All-star break

slumps continue. Just like last year.

Fantastic.

I'm waiting to compare seasons until this one is over

I can’t draw parallels until the pattern is finished.

hard not to see some of the same issues.

that doesnt mean the same conclusion is inevitable.

That just doesnt give us as fans confidence that the same result is not at least possible.

Bakes said after the game that these inconsistencies are happening league wide and I have to agree with him. Each team that has had a significant amount of Olympians has gone through some good and some bad, and have not been consistently either.
