This isn't a shock seeing as how Setoguchi played on the first line Tuesday and scored twice. Marleau moves down to play with Pavelski and Malhotra, Nichol centers McGinn and Clowe on the third line.

Bring up Couture and we're all gravy.

Nice. God it would be amazing for our team if Seto started playin like he did before he got injured.

I’m not sure I really like the idea of splitting up Nichol and Ortmeyer. I’d rather have them team up with Clowe or Malhotra or McGinn. It seems like all year that third line has been crazy good when Nichol and Ortmeyer are put together with one other forward so splitting them up doesn’t make sense to me. Though I do see how we would waste Clowe or McGinn being on the fourth line. I like Gooch being back on that top line though, and the second line’s two-way abilities.

Yeah Nichol definitely belongs on the center of that fourth line, it’s perfect for him, he’s a grinder and he plays well with Ortmeyer. They just need to bring up Couture to center that third line with Mcginn already, those two are both great players and they have awesome chemistry together. Once they do that, Nichol can head down to the fourth line with Ortmeyer.

Clowe-Couture-McGinn

Mitchell-Nichol-Ortmeyer

I would love those bottom two lines. I somehow doubt DW calls up Couture at all for the rest of this season though. Also, I don’t want Demers up until he proves he won’t shit the bed when he so much as thinks he’s being pressured. He’s gifted offensively, but defensively he needs some work and he needs to be calm under pressure.

Yeah i totally agree. I don’t think Demers is ready to play against the best teams in the NHL, especially not in the playoffs. I say leave him in Worcester and bring up Couture so he, Mcginn and Clowe can start creating some chemistry in time for the playoffs.

Demers

would definitely benefit from a run through the Calder Cup playoffs rather than a Stanley Cup playoff run.

Word. Just bring up Couture and bump Nichol to the 4th line with Orts, and all will be right with the Sharks-world.

Has Goc stayed healthy this year?

I know he was having a lot of problems with back spasms in his last season for us.

yep

Been absolute money. Second best two way player and best bargain on the roster. Shootout, overtime, ES, SH, you name it he’s done it. Dark horse for MVP, in my book, just cause he’s a swiss army knife.

That's what he was for us too

He just sortuv plateaued and probably could have done with a change of scenery.

Glad to see that Nashville has been kind to him.

Scotty Nichol has exceeded all expectations here. He’s everything he was advertised to be, and has stayed out of the penalty box. We’re all glad to have him. I hope he and Ortmeyer stay with us. They’ve been steady and solid for us.

glad to hear it

Scooter was a fan favorite in Nashville and was never afraid to mix it up. Last year he fought Jumbo Joe at a game I attended…priceless!

I guess when we throwing all of our players under the bus last year

Goc just became expendable. He didnt have the grit we were looking for, and he had little to no scoring touch in teal.

I’m happy he is playing well in Nashville, but wonder what is it about the Nashville system that has prompted him to become the player we always hoped he’d be?

Superb two way play is required. Goc does it better than anyone but Legwand.

Yeah, I think we are overvaluing Nichol a bit

I love his hustle, but he is a good 4th line center and 3rd pairing PKer, nothing more. Like him a lot more than Goc, though. That said, Mitchell is suffering from Goc-itis this year (panicking when he has the puck near the opposing net causing him to just blindly swing the puck at the net).

And what is up with TMac constantly harping on Seto? Does he need to score a goal a game for 10 games for there not to be a caveat to an obviously strong game? Dude has earned a spot on the top line for now, nothing wrong with admitting it.

Goc, dark horse MVP for the Preds?!?!?! Sometimes all you really need is a change of scenery. Good for him, he always had good hands and some speed, just never could generate offense while he was here.

by ruben398 on Mar 4, 2010 3:54 PM PST reply actions

Dude, Goc is the picture of decisiveness around the net. Silky smooth hands and great vision. I couldn’t create a better third line center.

Well, he didn’t show that here. Glad he’s found a role in Nashville, though.

The best 3rd line center EVAR? Mike Ricci. Discuss.

What's there to discuss?

Mike Ricci and best EVAR in the same sentence is pretty much true for anything awesome.

Seto needs some harping on

He is an absolute beast when he is on. But left to his own devices, he disappears from time to time, skating out away from the puck and not really engaging or helping his linemates along the boards.

Devin has all the tools to be a great player (see Clowe, Ryane). He just doesn’t always use them, and he’s still at a point in his career where he CAN learn (maybe unlike Joe, who might be accused of tuning out coaches because he’s such an elite player).

Not just about one game...

As we get closer to playoffs there is going to be some shifting of lines to get the best fits. I think McLellan saw something he liked at the end of that game, and wants to give Seto tonight to step up. If he doesn’t play well I don’t expect him to stay on top line for long.

by The Corv on Mar 4, 2010 5:23 PM PST up reply actions

I dunno, kid has 16 goals even though he was injured and then played a bunch of games on the 4th line. Even HTML disappears at times. Seto seems to me playing a normal game. He coasts sometimes, he hustles most times. Not many people are Scot Nichol…or MARCEL GOC!!!
