Around SBN: News And Other Updates Leading Up To Pats-Giants

After getting hit on a dirty play by Maxim Lapierre last night in a game against Montreal Canadians, Nichol is expected to be out of the lineup for 7-10 days with a shoulder injury, which translating from the Sharks language, typically means 2-3 weeks.

Also in the update - Nabby to start another game tomorrow, as Sharks face Columbus.

Update: According to KuklaKorner and multiple other sources on Twitter, Lapierre got suspended for four games for the hit on Nichol. Obviously, the league shared our opinion that this was a dirty hit, and they acted much faster than they usually do. The four game suspension for someone who has not been suspended like this in the past also speaks for itself.

Might be Helminen… Depending on how healthy they think Couture is. He just returned to play during the Olympics.

Couture has 5 points in his last 4 games back from injury.

I think he’s ok.

But yeah, could also be Helminen. Just seems like Wilson is really high on Couture, so I’d expect him to be the callup.

Shitty

It looked like a separated shoulder. And by the sounds of how long he’ll be out, I assume what’s what it is.

Hopefully they call Couture up. He’s due for an extended look with competant linemates.

Yeah he says 7-10 days is just Todd Mclellans guesstimation. I hope he’s right.

What's funny...

Is that the injury suffered by Nichol is very similar to the one Couture just came back from.

How long was he out? I remember it being more than 7-10 days.

I definitely see it being more than 7-10 days… maybe more like 7 to 10 games

Thanks for the video link...

I had a rough work week and passed out before the game started. Gonna pick it up on gamecenter once its loaded and was really curious how bad the hit was. That was horseshit man… Glad he got suspended for that. Glad also that the announcers called it out as well, nice to hear announcers not standing up for their own teams antics.

by The Corv on Mar 5, 2010 3:13 PM PST up reply actions

That was the TSN guys, while they are Canadians, they’re not specifically Habs announcers.

Best part was when he was talking crap about LaPierre hiding behind the refs.

Yeah, I’m right there with you.

Most of the Sharks thought it was Markov that dropped Nichol. LaPierre is such a douche that he’d let their top defensemen take the heat for his shit.

The only redeeming quality to re-watching that video is listening to Ray Ferraro’s commentary. Right when I saw it, the first word I thought was “cheap” and Ferraro was calling it “garbage” about a second later. I love validation… :)

I dunno, the part where Moen and Leach are punching each other and LaPierre stands behind the ref and tries to jab at the currently engaged Leach with the commentator sarcastically saying “Now it’s safe, get in there Max, the linesman is there, you’re safe” was pretty good.

OT: Hockey tonight

Wasn’t sure where to mention this, since we now have multiple OT threads and the notice is slightly last minute. TONIGHT:

  • 7:30pm, Stockton Arena. Sharks ‘AA’ affiliate Stockton Thunder host Dirk Southern and the Victoria Salmon Kings.
  • 8:00pm, Sharks Ice, North Rink. Hockey for Haiti. Coaches from San Jose Junior Sharks & Santa Clara Blackhawks face off, with proceeds from ticket sales going directly to the Red Cross relief effort in Haiti. $10 min.donation. Jamie Baker and Randy Hahn will be there.

And I really really hope Nichol is okay. Poor guy has yet to play the full 82-game regular season. : /

It's probably too late for me to plan on Stockton

I might have plans until about 10:30 or 11:00 anyway. If people are hanging out after the Haiti benefit, I’d be down. I’ll be downtown until 10:30 or 11:00, and I live close to Sharks Ice, so if people end up getting together, it’s all good by me.

If I lived in/near SJ, I’d definitely go to the benefit. As it stands, I’m likely heading to Stockton.

I hope anyone who has a moment of free time this evening, can swing by Sharks Ice and donate, even if you don’t plan on staying. And say ‘HI’ to Bakes and Randy! :D
