And for this evening I’m a huge Vancouver fan – if only to extend the series, but I fear Luongo’s broken.

Sooo excited!

I’m just…ugh…about not going as I had every intention of catching the rubber match today. I even woke up early and looked to dress in green & gold and head to the ballpark, but I couldn’t justify cutting out on my sister, mom and grandmother – none of which are sports fans in the slightest.

I was with my mom and sister when I received word that Braden threw the 19th PERFECT game in MLB history! I squealed and shouted the news and received only perplexed looks in return. Heh, yeah. Aaaawhaaargh.

And for those curious:

yeah for sure. i have the super unfair advantage of being a fairly new hockey fan so i don’t have all the disappointment to weigh on my heart. just the last two years’ worth. so i can just roll with the good times now and be glad for all the little moments.

though i guess it’s also kind of just my nature to roll with what’s happening now and not let the past get to me so much.. it’s over and done and all any of us can do is keep moving forward. these guys really seem to have clicked though.. they really believe in eachother so i want to believe too. but we’ll see what happens next round :)

It was more the fact that he was already going down

And then made the lunge to get there in spite of that that made the save more impressive to me.

This might be the one place where I agree with Avs fans and Wings fans

I hate bad officiating because it just makes you have to qualify everything. Sports are the best because you can just say “Team A beat Team B when all things were equal.” I know in reality that’s never the case, but I also loathe the fact that you can’t just say Team A won and be done with it. In any event, Team A won, Team B goes home, and we play in Round 3. Whatever. GO SHARKS!

I still think we would have beat the Avs in 6 despite the penalties.

The Red Wings would have gone more than 5, I don’t think I’ll admit they would have won it though :)

"Douglas Murray is a humongous human being." – Drew Remenda

by Evilducks on May 10, 2010 5:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Who’s to say what bad and good officiating is? I mean, I figure as long as the same calls are more or less being called, I’m fine with it. If they’re letting tons of shit go, on both sides, fine. Doesn’t mean the number of calls on teams will be equal. Sometimes teams just commit more infractions.

In our series, the numbers were the way they were because we were working hard and drawing penalties. To try and figure out who would have won had penalty numbers been equal is dumb, because it discounts how the Sharks were playing, and the things they did to draw more penalties.

In the end, good teams win depsite outside factors.

by xtina_w on May 10, 2010 5:59 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't disagree that we were the better team

I just hate that the officiating became a story line two series in a row. In the end, yes, the better team won, but I hate having other fans think we have to justify having more penalty minutes. The whole thing just irks me.

Is there any advantage to subscribing to THN rather than just reading the articles on their site? Are there articles that are exclusive to the published version, or is there a delay before they’re available for free on their site? Or is it just to have a physical magazine?

OT: LISTEN TO DREW on his radio show

LISTEN LIVE
They’re supposed to talk about the Sharks after this commercial break

hopefully they dont start telling drew about how the sharks are chokers again. man that pisses him off.

by xtina_w on May 10, 2010 6:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, not much said at all. :/

Drew only said the Sharks welcome the rest and hope Van/Chi goes 7.

That was pretty hilarious, though. He was like, “They have eleven freaking new players! This is not the same team!” and the other guys couldn’t really respond without using the same old arguments.

yeah he was getting really mad about that.. like. if you wanted to talk about the burger line not showing up a week ago, that would have been a sort of legit argument. or huskins and demers being sort of weak. ok. but “well you saw what happened last year” … seriously?

And when he admitted to being a Bruins fan and said “We’re fine with getting rid of Thornton because we got the BEST NHL defenseman in return. Zdeno Chara!” And Drew simply says “Wat?”

*cough*

want to know what’s better? I just got an email from my dad (bandwagon class Wings fan) who said the Sharks can’t win big games. This is AFTER game 5.

BWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA he probably didn’t even watch the series. Seriously.

i think you should not reply for a month, and then you can reply “mmmm what?”

cuz um. stuff is going to happen.

I was honestly waiting for him to say, “I didn’t know Lidstrom was on the Bruins,” or something to that effect.
