HALAK TRADED TO BLUES?!?!
Jaroslav Halak was traded to the Blues, it looks like, confirmed by ESPN. This may very well be a marleau to the kings esque deal, where ESPN made it up. But still, assuming he's gone, what would this mean for the Sharks? No Price? :(
So now that price is out of the picture for SJ, what do they do?Sign Chris mason or something? He's very underrated
Or do they sign Nabby to a cheap deal around 2.75 per year? Or do they go with Griess and Stalock? Either way, this may be false cuz its ESPN but still

very shocking. Habs fans have got to be pissed.
Halak still becomes a RFA on July 1. This trade seems to be motivated for financial reasons. This makes it clear that Chris Mason is gone, and that the Blues are willing to spend the Benjamins to sign Halak to a long-term deal.

Per Bob McKenzie on Twitter...
“Sources say PHI, TB and SJ were others pitching hard on Halak, What’s clear now is that, in spite of playoffs, Price was and is MTL’s guy.”
So does that mean we weren’t/aren’t planning on keeping Nabby? Leaving no stone unturned?
Getting Halak would have been pretty epic, IMO. He’s a beast and couldda shored things up in net for us for a while…

Definitely, but he probably would’ve had a huge cap hit; although it might’ve been worth it. We could’ve let Marleau walk and let him Halak take most of Marleaus allocated cap space, and then used the rest to boost our defense. We coulda been a team that was near impossible to score against…sigh.
Halak will probably take, what, 4-4.5 to sign? I’d do that for him (no one else, really, though).

lol man, Habs fans must be pissed. It doesn’t seem like a very good trade either, they got 2 prospects who have never played in the NHL for Halak.
You’d think the Habs would be trying to win now after a great postseason and a new found goaltending phenom; but it seems like they’re just building for the future now.
But isn’t that because he is an unsigned free agent, they just traded his rights pretty much
Im Bill Romanowski, EAT MY STEROIDS OR ILL EAT YOUR F***ING BRAINS!!
I think the Habs were just being more prudent. Trade Halak now, get 1st and 3rd round prospects presumably further along in development vs. Wait till Halak gets offer-sheeted and likely get a 1st and a 3rd round picks that will take longer to sow the return (or even worse, both Price and Halak get offers, forcing Montreal to likely have to pony up large to keep one).
If the Blues can’t sign Halak – kind of a wash, now they can get the picks in compensation plus a legitimate shot to woo a bona fide #1 before all the others get their chances.
This trade will hopefully show a vote of confidence in Price. I wonder how the added pressure as the only #1 will affect Price’s play forthcoming…
NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Dan Ellis
Cause if Habs fans didn’t already have a dislike of Price, they really will now. A few bad games and they’ll be screaming for blood.
"Douglas Murray is a humongous human being." – Drew Remenda
Agreed
Halak seemed to deal with the pressures of playing in Montreal just fine, if the Habs who overachieved this year slip even a little bit next year I would go into witness protection if I’m Price.
Who’s gonna finish this off? I am going Boyle. - FML! No more OT Predictions from me!
I really wanted Price =\
Now i could care less who we sign as long as they’re cheap, because i’m banking on Greiss being our savior more than a dude like Dan Ellis. I don’t see what’s so great about Ellis, I can read his tweets whether he’s on the team or not. I’d rather just get a giant butterfly goalie who will come dirt cheap like Jeff-Drouin Deslauriers (or maybe Ondrec Pavelec) than spend an extra 2 million cap space on a guy like Dan Ellis.
So....with these new developments....
who are we going to get for Clowe now?

Hjalmarsson would look awesome in Teal. But just letting Marleau go and holding onto Clowe, we could still afford him (should Chicago be willing to let him walk).

Good move for the Blues
As they have to compete within a fairly tough Central Division w/ the Cup champion Blackhawks (woof), Red Wings, Predators….and Blue Jackets. I’m also not happy to see Halak in the West.
…
Even though it’s hearsay, a Sharks fan working in a high end store near Stanford stated last week that he assisted Nabby and his wife Tabby. When asked about his future with the Sharks, he said he’s staying with San Jose – to which his wife happily agreed (allegedly stating ’we’re not going anywhere’)
That doesn’t appear to be the case from the Sharks POV however, as it’s apparent the Sharks are making pitches to other goaltenders, like The Monster, Karlsson, Halak, etc., which would suggest Nabokov’s time as the top tender in teal is over and/or they’re not willing or able to hand the reigns over to Greiss, et al.
Also, on an aside, after reading through other team’s forums and chatrooms – it looks like fans are none to eager to see their team acquire Nabokov (the big game choker). I wonder if GM’s share a similar view.

The cannon is the ridiculously badass. I follow the Jackets a little bit because I like Rick Nash and the cannon. But I wouldn’t call them tough guys, otherwise.

It's interesting that the Habs traded Halak before re-signing Price
I’d imagine that Price would use the current scenario as additional leverage to get a new contract done for extra $$$. I guess the Habs management is either really stupid or they’re just really confident that Price is their guy— regardless of what happened in the playoffs.
Even though Halak will be a RFA, no way Blues make this trade if they aren’t confident of signing Halak to a deal. Blues cap hit is 27.6 million for next season.. Money isn’t a problem. Halak gets the chance to be the undisputed #1 goalie in St.Louis. I see nothing but positives for Halak. He gets out of that pressure environment that is Montreal,
In a league where what have you done for me lately, I guess Halak got rewarded— just the wrong team got the reward.
Patty Marleau: An Erotic Life in San Jose... to be continued?
Very curious now to find out what The Client does. The Blues obviously didn’t want to (or didn’t have) the picks to give him an offer sheet, but is Allan Walsh (I think that’s his name) going to let him sign without seeing the bags of cash thrown around on July 1.

Supposedly there were NO contract talks between Halak, his agent and Montreal
since the playoffs ended. Which seems contradictory to all reports from Gauthier that Montreal was seriously considering keeping both goalies as a duo.
Maple Leafs fans have something to be delighted about.
Patty Marleau: An Erotic Life in San Jose... to be continued?
I’m not sure what to think about it. Montreal’s GM seemed to be emphasizing the fact that the decision was made based on where they saw the future of the franchise going. I mean, let’s be honest, there’s no guarantee that Halak was going to continue putting up the type of numbers we saw this postseason. It’s a bummer that Price will probably not end up in San Jose, but hey, you never know. I think I actually feel worse for Halak than I do for Habs fans. Who’d want to live and play hockey in Missouri?
