Brad Staubitz traded to Minnesota for 5th Round Pick
I think this pretty much solidifies Frazier McLaren in a fourth line role or as a healthy scratch.
Although I have fond memories of the Tootoo pounding, I'm not shedding a tear over this one.

A 5th rounder is a good return for him. Our scouting department works miracles at that point in the draft.

When i heard about the trade over Twitter, the first thing I thought was “how the fuck did we turn Staubitz into a 5th rounder?” Then I thought “DW is actually acquiring picks? Weird…” Then I was pleased with the trade. Staubitz will go down in Sharks lore for his pounding of Tootoo’s face…but I’d rather have the 5th and a chance to help restock the farm a bit.

But if your "ruffling feathers" guy can pot you 12 goals in the regular season.
and chip in 2 in the playoffs, you take that in a heartbeat. All I’m saying is that likening Staubitz to Carcillo is actually giving him more credit than he has displayed thus far, at least in terms of overall play.
Aside from the “Staubitzing of Tootoo,” what other moment can we really remember Staubitz for? 99% of the reminiscing of his time as a Shark is directly related to that one moment.
Overall ass-beatdown potential: Staubitz wins hands down.
An annoying agitator that I wouldn’t be afraid to send on the ice: Carcillo.

Godspeed, Staubitz. Also not incredibly torn up over this – as long as the Tootoo fight will continue to be shown in Sharks ads on CSN (as it has been for the past year), I’ll be happy. If not, there’s always YouTube. I too am stoked at the prospect of seeing more of McLaren. There are very few times I can recall in which Staubitz made a real impact on a game, though in all fairness, he did score a few clutch goals.

Interesting. YouTube marked this fight as mature and one has to login to view it.
First time I’ve encountered something like this.

The Staubitzing of Tootoo is the most awesome thing I've seen in person.
I was on the glass for that game, basically with the fight happening in front of me. The best part of the fight, while Brad was skating to the box, he winked at Jody Shelley. I’ll never forget that game. Thanks for the memories, Staubitz.

Yeah I was there as well… The fight started in the face-off circle right in front of me. I could see them talking shit to each other before the puck drop. I love how they skated all the way almost to center ice before they engaged each other… I love how they had to scrape the blood off the ice when he was done turning that guy’s face into cat food…. Ugh...no please.
Thomas was a one hit wonder, and cashed in big time because of it. If we want to spend 5 mil on a goalie (please don’t spend 5 mil on a goalie, DW), keep Nabby.
I suspect this is just a rumor based on the Sharks apparently being in on Halak. It follows the storyline of “now that Halak has been traded, the phone lines in Boston should heat up for Tim Thomas.”

I wish Staubitz luck with the Minnesota Wild
I admit, when I found out that Staubitz was traded, I wasn’t all torn up about it. I mean, yeah I felt a bit sad that I guy that I was cheering on the past two years is now with a different organization, but Staubitz was sort of that guy that was on the team, but not really on the team. Sort of like Semenov. I was probably more sad when Shelley was traded.
Like has been mentioned dozens of times before, my favorite memory of Brad Staubitz is that infamous Tootoo fight. I remember walking into my physics class the next day, and that was all anyone was talking about. I mean, people talk hockey in San Jose, but never before had I seen an entire class take part in a discussion about hockey, even if it was just for a fight. Staubitz got a well-deserved third star that night, which makes it even better.
But another memorable moment of Staubitz’s that hasn’t been mentioned here was his first NHL goal. It was in Edmonton – his home town – against notorious Sharks-killer Roloson. The shot was deflected into the net by Roloson’s glove. It was fantastic.
And on a less sentimental note, the fifth round pick was a good get by DW. Added to our meager number of draft picks without giving up a key member of the team (i.e. one that played in the playoffs). I’m a little surprised that he was even able to get a 5th rounder – Staubitz is an RFA enforcer, and probably should have gotten a 6th or 7th, judging on what Shelley garnered. Anyways, however low the pick may be, I trust the Sharks scouts because they have done pretty damn well in the past.
