Apparently available, says Dreger. He’s an RFA, made $3.15 last season. Solid puck-mover from the blue line, I know, but haven’t seen enough of him on the Oilers the past few years to form a good opinion. Then he ruptured his testicle right after going to the Preds this spring. Thoughts?

I mean, do we just pick our guys and go back to the tank, or has our GM hinted at any major trades, or future draft picks. or anything noteworthy.
Statistics are like a girl in a bikini. They show a lot, but not everything.
Doug Wilson is notorious for playing things extremely close to the vest – if he’s going to make a trade, we likely won’t know until it happens. He is traditionally pretty active trade-wise on draft day, usually trading picks to improve his position or accrue more.

Looking at their salary cap situation, it seems very well-managed. Looks to me like they could fill out their lineup with the defense they have right now.

But it is far less important than the NFL combine, due to the fact that most NHL prospects are drafted at the age of 18 and spend a couple of years in developmental leagues.

There was a rule put into effect recently where they have to be one year removed from High School before getting drafted. A lot go to college, but a very few play in Europe/other leagues for a year.

Which basically means that you have to go to one year of college, but there are some loopholes (overseas, NBA D-League, work out on your own)

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I think he just needed some confidence so he wouldn’t think too much while on the ice. It’s even arguable that Doherty was better than Gudbranson this year. (I listened to their playoff games on the radio, and it certainly sounded like Doherty was the best player on the ice in those games.)
I don’t either – he’s always been pegged as a project pick, and he’s just progressing a bit faster than expect.

Dmen take longer to develop. Ones that are good enough to be considered in the top 10, can end up being very good. (Just look at Doughty.)
Yeah, I’d honestly want to have a Norris-caliber defenseman than a dynamic forward. Granted, the Sharks already have lots of great forwards at the NHL level.

I guess this is not too surprising either, but I don’t agree with taking goalies early in the draft, miss way too often, and there are too many average goalies available in FA.
Plus, you look at all the really good goalies in the league right now, and a lot of them were drafted in the later rounds. Better off going quantity than quality with goalies, and hope that one of them works out.

When I was younger, I used to as well.
They were my second fave team. The only connection I had with them was the movies (I was a kid, who didn’t love those movies as a kid) and when they changed the name I didn’t like them as much.

He’s big and fast, both things we could use. And the questions there are whether his passing ability will translate to the NHL if he’s to make the top 6. And I definitely trust Burke’s evaluation of hockey sense. The Sharks’ sleepers are mostly based on a guy’s hockey sense being good enough to overcome other shortcomings. This guy’s hockey sense is probably actually better than people think. That means he could have speed, size and hockey sense. That’s a good package.
