I've picked up all the materials needed for the stick, and will be going through the process of painting and adding fanart over the next couple of days. My target it to have it ready by week's end so those wanting to sign the stick for Nabby can gather next Monday (7/5).
If anyone has pictures they would like to recommend for the blade of the stick, please post them here. It's a Reebok 6X Goalie, so the thing should be able to handle several. Depending on the volume, I may not be able to use everything, but I'll do my best to try.
I'll post pictures as the build progresses here to keep everyone updated.

I just laid down a gloss black undercoat and covered up all of the Reebok logos, save one on the back of the blade.
Also, I’m thinking of moving the signing party, or at least a part of it, to Peggy Sue’s (still on San Pedro’s). A few folks of non-drinking age expressed interest in signing it as well.

How about sig pics?
How about having fans sign on paper, take a picture, then sending you the picture to decoupage onto the stick? You’d get a lot more fan sigs that way for the stick, and help out those who can’t make it to, or are too far away from, your signing party.
You could also resize them to fit.

When are you planning on presenting Nabby with the stick?
How about including a photo album filled with greetings from those who can’t be present for the stick signing? This is slightly different from the first idea of decoupaging little sigs all over the stick, but with the same spirit. The album and stick would be presented together.

but it might be cool to include some of Nabby’s stats during his time with the sharks: years played, saves, starts, wins, all start appearances, etc.

Funny part is that the TSN NHL FA tracker has his name spelled incorrectly too...

Re: stick: LOL heavens, no…no need for that. That’s like the first time ever I’ve ever mis-spelled his name. I guess I just get ahead of myself sometimes when typing, and hit “post” before I proofread. After all these years you’d think I’d learn not to do that… ;-)

How many FTF Sharks fans would do something such as this?
How many fans, who couldn’t make it to the stick signing, would do this?:
Sending them all to one place by regular mail, and having them put into a photo album that would accompany the stick that Noctro is making.
The album I have in mind will fit approx 400 of these business-card-sized signatures with expansion of about 100-200. I know that there are tens of thousands of Sharks fans who would want to be involved, so I was thinking of perhaps limiting it to FTF members (due to budget constraints).
Would have to coordinate with Noctro on the timing, deadlines, and perhaps someone who is more centrally located (I’m 300 miles away) to volunteer to assemble the album.

I can delay this part
Consider what I’m doing as an offshoot of what you’re doing. Only my side is for those who cannot, for whatever reason, make it to the Stick Event(s). Perhaps I could wait until after the Event, then open it up to those who wanted to contribute, but couldn’t make it. After which I would turn the album over to you to add to the Stick and the Signing Book, for presentation to Nabby (any planned day? time frame?).
I’d also need, from everyone else, an approximation of how many who can’t make it, would want to send in their greeting to be put in this album.

Update on Signature Album, responses needed
I have a reply from the vendor. The album I have in mind can easily fit about 1000 of the business card sized signatures.
So, if you (generically addressed) are interested, and know of others who are interested, please start replying to this comment with numbers (example, “my 7 friends and I want to participate, and so do 34 at my job”, would give me a rough count of 42), and I’ll add them up to see if it would work out.
I would have to make arrangements with the local Post Office to receive the bulk in a given amount of time (depending on Noctro’s deadlines, and presentation date). Also giving me time to assemble the album, then getting it to Noctro to be presented along with the stick.
The rules would depend on the response total, as it may be one sig per card, or perhaps a family or household would have all of their sigs on one card.

Last Night's work....
Next is the lettering and photos. Then the topcoat of bar-grade varnish.
I’m doing my best to hit the Monday deadline. Should know tomorrow if we’ll make it. If not, I’ll make it a weekend event on the 10th or 11th.
(PS those are my skates in the BG….got them a liiiiittle too warm when I did the heat fitting. D’oh. On the plus side, they fit like a glove now, though).

It’s takin a little longer than I estimated, but the results seem to be worth it.
I decided to forego paint in favor of hockey tape for the jersey stripes. Under the thick layer of bar varnish, it should hold up well, and it seemed a bit more fitting being done that way as well.

Signing Event Delay
It looks like we’re going to have to do the signing next weekend. Unfortunately, the bar lacquer takes a while to dry, and is still a little on the tacky side.
On the plus side, it sounds like a Today was harder for many, so having it on the weekend should increase participation.
I’d like to get an idea of headcount, so if people can post their intention to come, I can make arrangements with Peggy Sue’s ahead of time.

Wow.
Going through all these photos it sure is difficult to pick and chose what to place , and what not to.
I’ve decided to go for a theme of victory. I hope this doesn’t offend anyone. I honestly just want to make it have a positive impact whenever it’s looked at.
Save for my “artistic mark” I’m leaving the entire backside blank for signatures. I have a teal paintmarker (my god, that was hard to find) along with a few other colors. Thought is that we can populate the backside on a clean face.
Additionally, in the event we just get too many people, I’ll be bringing a black-paged signature book with photos from Nabby’s career centered on each page people can write and sign around.
When all is said and done, a gracious individual has offered to present it to Nabby for us, before he leaves.
I’ll try to get more blocker pix out this evening, but it may be late, as there’s still a lot to get done before Sunday.

Hey everyone.
It sounded like a really good idea at first, but the more I look at this, the more I’m finding that adding the photos just may make it look way too busy.
I’d like to instead just add our message:
“Thanks for all the great memories— from your loudest fans in San Jose.”
And leave the photos for the memory books we’ll have there. It will leave more room for signatures, which, I think, in the long run will mean far, far more to him than the photos ever would.
Final touches tomorrow include a Butt-end for the grip (this helps you pick up a fallen stick off the ice), and the lacquer coats. We should be in very good shape.
Thanks for the support in this project, and I look forward to meeting you guys and gals on Sunday.

I’m sorry! I only showed up to sign the book and the stick(I signed it Jenny from San Mateo), and you were engaged in conversation with someone and I didn’t want to interrupt, so I just said bye to your wife, who was so sweet and helpful! I should’ve said hello but needed to run – I was wearing he Shark ring, too, but I tend to not be one who’d go “hey look” (at least not in person :P )
We should defintiely have a FTF meetup sometime when the Sharks season resumes. I have a feeling a lot of people couldn’t make it yesterday – it seemed like a generally hectic weekend for everyone, lots of folks on vacation and such. You did such an amazing job putting all that together!!! (Can we all vote Noctro for Fan of the Year?)

The Sharpie was a donation
I picked it up previously for a disc signing when my ultimate frisbee pickup crew had one of our regulars move out to DC. I figured it should be passed on and used in more noble gift endeavors.

Thanks again for the great organization and effort you put into pulling the signing event together! The stick and the signing books looked awesome! I introduced myself as “Angie” and was the first gal who showed up as you were getting set-up. Long time lurker on FTF but officially signed up today! Look forward to seeing the pics of the signed stick, if you plan to post. It was great meeting you and your wife!
P.S. I would have stuck around if I knew they were serving big teal drinks – yum!
