What if Seto...
What if Setoguchi doesn't get an offer sheet from another team? We made him a QO so he won't be a UFA. Does that mean that he stays with the team at his current salary and becomes a UFA next year? If so, do you think DW might sit down with Seto and explain that to him and let him know that he will get the pay raise next year? After all, our UFAs next year are Thornton, Wallin, Nichol, Huskins along with Demers and McGinn as RFAs.
I don't know how the CBA works so this is just thinking out loud. If this is the case, then we still have $9M to work with (or 7 if you expect Malhotra to sign)

I think they can go to arbitration on a one year deal. And if that doesn’t work, and he doesn’t sign anything with us, he’d have to sit out the year. Not sure on the specifics, but I think that’s the general idea. Someone with a better understanding of the QO procedures can drop some knowledge on you probably.

I don’t believe Seto is eligible for arbitration yet. He can reject the QO and hold out. If he holds out past December he’s done for the year.
What the hell is with all of the panic on Seto anyway.
People… it’s still June! Calm down.

Truth. He’s going to sign. This is standard procedure for RFAs.

I’m not panicking. I was just wondering about cap issues and what Seto’s status was. I read somewhere, and I forget where, that his offer was just a QO to keep him from becoming a UFA rather than a new contract like Pavs.
An RFA not having a contract before July 1 is nothing new and a lot of teams have given out QO’s for players that they are going to sign however this allows GM’s to deal with the older more expensive UFA’s before he sits down with Seto. I have not heard anything about Seto not wanting a deal or any contract strife for that matter so him only getting a QO at this time is no reason for any amount of alarm.
Who’s gonna finish this off? I am going Boyle. - FML! No more OT Predictions from me!
As far as I know which isn’t a lot is that unless someone throws him an offer sheet we have his rights how long I think until hes eligable to be a UFA that part I am fuzzy on. So Seto could hold out and not sign but if DW does not want to let him go and no offer sheet is forth coming he sits at home or goes to the KHL until they agree.

If someone doesn’t offer sheet him, and they don’t come to a contract agreement, then Seto could take the Sharks to arbitration (aka court, basically) and they both make their points as to why he should receive whatever amount of money, and then the judge (or whatever they’re called in this situation, the arbitrator?) makes the final decision as to what his Salary would be based on performance and other stuff.
I doubt I'd call it panic...
But I’d sure like to see DW enter tomorrow morning with 9m to spend vs 7m!
