ROSTER: 22; CAP:$59.4m; CARRY-OVER PENALTY: $0.328m;
PAYROLL: $60.154m; CAP ROOM: $0.176m; BONUSES: $0.930m
So this is the easiest roster to accommodate DW's Hammer of an offersheet (see what I did there?). Basically, we could put Huskins through waivers, and when no team claims him: as I am sure would happen, we send him to the AHL (let's face it: he has only been up for, like, three full seasons). And I don't think how I punctuated that sentence is legit at all.
To boyle it down:
- Boyle w/ a mobile shotdown Dman
- Vlasic w/ Blake's cheaper, funnier, if not slightly less expensive/effective replacement (2.5!!!!)
- Crankshaft w/ a new offensive Dman (Demers) to learn (this means a whole lot more minutes for this D pairing)
The question is: Do you think DW will roll with this until the trade deadline?

I think somone would claim Huskins. He's not worthless.
Also, why John McCarthy?

One more thing, what did you do with Mitchell in this scenario?
Trade for a random pick?

Mitchell should be there, but so should Couture as well.

Couture is not going to do any better in the AHL.
We need him up here.

Trade Mitchell for picks
Put Huskins through waivers.
OK so i really like Marc Staal
He’s pretty much everything you could ever want in a defenseman, he’s huge, he’s mobile, he’s great with his stick, he’s physical, he’s got a lot of offensive talent that he’s only just starting to tap into, and he’s only 23 years old. He’s just an excellent shutdown defenseman with a lot of offensive upside, he could imo be the next Chris Pronger, and he would be a great partner for either Boyle or Vlasic.
The Rangers are having trouble resigning him so there could be an opportunity there. Whether the Hjalmarsson trade goes through or not, Marc Staal would be an AMAZING pickup and we’d still have a lot of tradeable assets. We could offer some combination of Clowe, Murray, prospects, and picks (2nd round pick and 4th+ round picks). Personally i’d give ALOT for him, (so much so that i won’t even say) but i’d leave DW to decide what would be the best trade.
Sooo…i’ve been rosterbating, and here’s what i’ve come up with:

With this roster we’d have comparable offensive lines as last year, and probably the best defense pairings in the entire league (most of which are all still very young, and would be around for a very long time). Marc Staal and Boyle would make for an amazing defense pairing with LOADS of offensive potential, while still being top notch defensively; they’d definitely be able to shutdown other top lines, but ideally we’d probably want to put Vlasic and Hjalmarsson out there against other teams’ top lines as our premier shutdown pairing. Wallin and Demers would also make for a very solid 3rd pairing.
Now i know not everyone is a fan of Torrey Mitchell, I personally see a lot of potential in him still and I think he’ could make a great, speedy, 2 way forward who can kill penalties, score some goals, and setup linemates. However, there’s still 1.284 million cap space left, so if you (or DW, hypothetically) wanted to you could trade Mitchell and have 2.684 million to sign a 3rd line center of your choosing.
I like it Khaaz
I would say you could even put Mitchell up on that top line move Seto back to the 2nd line and get Cooch centering the 3rd line. It would balance out the scoring a little and get that 3rd line of Ferriero, McGin, and Cooch together (also prevents having a 2nd line of all centers)
Yeah i love the Worcestor line of Ferriero/Couture/McGinn but I really wanna see Seto back up with Thornton next season, mostly because right handed shooters seem to have the most success with Thornton (Seto and Cheechoo most recently); Thornton himself has said that he really prefers to set up right handed shooters.
I’d like to see Couture get top 6 minutes so I kinda like him better on that 2nd line than down on the 3rd i think. I also remember seeing some flashes of chemistry between McGinn and Mitchell last season so i think that 3rd line could work.
Although with 1.2 million left we could maybe sign Modano for 1 million without even losing Mitchell or anyone else. Modano and San Jose have talked, and there have been rumors that Modano was the one that contacted San Jose, so maybe he really wants to play here and maybe he would be willing to play for only 1 million.
If we got Modano
I could see him and Cooch as interchangable as a 2nd line winger and 3rd line center. It would allow for a lot of flexibility on a Clowe-less Sharks team.
Maybe we can package Torrey Mitchell into the Staal deal just to get rid of him, and then sign Modano. I’d like that team much better :)

I like Mitchell though =\
At the very least, Mitchell will be an important part of our PK next year, and we’re running low on good PKers.
We don’t even necessarily have to lose Mitchell to get Modano anyways. He could sign for 1 mill, or we could keep MacIntyre in the AHL and have 1.884 million cap space for Modano; although we wouldn’t have any healthy scratches at forward then.
Is Staal available?

We could throw an offer sheet at him but the Rangers could match, or we could try and trade for him but I don’t think the Rangers are going to let him go for anything other then a kings ransom.
Who’s gonna finish this off? I am going Boyle. - FML! No more OT Predictions from me!
Yea I wouldn’t think so. He’s the kind of guy you can build a team around…hard for me to see the Rangers letting him go without a huge fight.

Rangers have a buttload of cap room if I remember correctly they can match any offer sheet we throw at them and probaly throw one at Setogouchi for revenge. Also I think its in bad taste to try and poach two RFA’s in one season not to mention well already be giving up a 1st and a 3rd in getting Hjmafgfjfhgfkjbsson (I give up trying to spell his name), so thats never gonna happen . Of course DW could in theory convinve Slather into trading Staal for his secret tanning/anti-aging formula!

Dont boo your team!
Well for starters, NYR GM Glen Sather is crazy, so who knows really; and he’s been quoted as saying:
For now, Sather chuckled as he described how close the parties are to a deal: "I wouldn’t say it’s a wide gap; it’s more like a chasm.
Sather seems like the kind of stubborn old crazy person that would just say, “You know what? Screw him.” and so maybe he’s looking for alternatives with Staal; and we have the assets to give him a fair trade proposal imo.
We defintiely shouldn’t offer sheet him though, i can’t see that working out for us, and if the Hjalmarsson deal goes through we wouldn’t have the picks to do it anyways.
Well, we have the picks to do it, still. The Rangers would just match, though.

Yeah, i wonder how willing Sather would be to listen to trade proposals. I would not mind if DW broke the bank getting him. I’d personally give up all our high draft picks + Murray to get him lol.
AND MITCHELL!!! MITCHELL MUST GO! :-P
