World Cup Final
The other World Cup thread got lost or buried, so here's a new one for today's final match between the Netherlands and Spain, in case anyone cares to comment or chat about it. (Don't mean to take up another fanpost - let me know if this is annoying)
The Germany v. Uruguay match was intense and I'm personally happy about Germany's win. That's what Uruguay gets for taking down my Koreans!!!

Looking forward to this. My heart would love to see a Dutch win, because they are the best football nation never to have won the damn thing.
But my head says Spain, that midfield is sublime and Holland will have great difficulty breaking their rhythm. Watch Xavi with the ball at his feet, rarely scores, but my Lord, can he ever pass a ball? Genius.
And you think you live in a non-traditional hockey market...
Oh yeah, it’s the same here.
/sigh.
I’m all for the Dutch. And it’s not because I speak the language, haha.
GO NEDERLAND!

That’s cool that you speak the language.
Just bought some Edam cheese to show my support for the Dutch!!!!!!!!!

Looks like I might be crashing here. Was suppose to be meeting a bunch of people in the city, but stuck doing some work from home. UGH! I hate quarter end.

Stuck working for part of the day, too, in the city. Probably won’t make Noctro’s signing event for Nabby :(

The damn Octopus had the nerve to pick Spain!
Damn him! Haha, I hope this game is exciting here.

I know! Damn that thing!!! I think I saw a sign in the Dutch crowd that said “Kill the Octopus!!!”

Man, I feel like the only Spain backer here!
And everyone else’s favorites? Germany and the Netherlands? Not a fan. Alas.
It should make for some great trash talking! Man, I’ve been waiting all week for this game!

Waited all week for this game, too, and you’re not the only Spain-backer here – I believe ZeroIndulgence is rooting for Spain, but he’s MIA so far today.

Let's go Spain!
I really have liked their style all tournament and ever since Euro :) and I was really happy about Germany’s win yesterday as well :D
Go Sharks!
I love that German team, especially Mueller and Klosse. Too bad Klosse didn’t get to play, and at his age, he’ll probably never again have a chance to match Ronaldo’s World Cup goals record, but happy that Germany took the bronze nonetheless

Rather win the bronze then lose for silver. ;)

I’m conflicted on who to root for. I like both teams, but I do have Spanish blood in me so I guess I’m more for Spain. I don’t want to hear family whining about the loss. :)Netherlands winning though would be awesome and would make me happy as well. I guess I can’t really go wrong. My heart does say Spain though.
Damnit, man, I just want to see a good game!! :D

Soccer officiating is just awful and the World Cup is no exception. I’d be more into soccer if that wasn’t the case.
by JenLovesHockey on Jul 11, 2010 12:19 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah. Especially with all the diving going on.
by AppleSweetRose on Jul 11, 2010 12:22 PM PDT up reply actions
The diving’s the worst part. I really like the game of soccer, but the officiating needs to be better, and they need to penalize or at least discourage the pansy-assed diving and faking!!!
by JenLovesHockey on Jul 11, 2010 12:25 PM PDT up reply actions
Red card for being a drama queen. That should do the trick.

I’m cheering for Spain…but jesus christ, I almost want to stop watching. It’s been really boring, no one is playing well. And then there’s the really dirty challenges, and the flopping because they’re trying to draw more fouls and cards. This is soccer at its worst, and it’s really sad to see at the World Cup Finals.
And that kick to the chest should have been a red. That was just disgustingly dirty. I almost expected players to drop the gloves after that one…that’s how hockey deals with that shit!
Ugh…

It has been boring, and all the pansy-diving and bad calls have been making it hard for all of us to watch.

I never cared for the game … ever … deep hate since I was a kid … but been watching to pass the time till October. But my hate is getting deeper with each game over how ridiculously they roll around at the slightest freaking touch. What a bunch of whiny ass babies. God I’m so glad the last game is today. My god if I was their mother I would be slapping them for such a display.

I hate soccer offsides.
It should be based on a zone, not the defenders.
Also, there should be a penalty for kicking it out of play.
Also, it should be played on ice with sticks.

Exactly!!! It would be punishment because my dad loved the Dodgers (I unfortunately grew up in L.A.) and he knew how horribly bored I was whenever he hogged the TV for baseball. So then, he got to making me watch with him if I did anything bad! I’d be like, “No, daddy! Not Dodger baseball! Anything but that!!!!” He was like, “Yes, you get to watch baseball now – and you keep those eyes open, young lady!!!”

Well it's a poor substitute for hockey
But I did enjoy that match. Good cagey tactical matchup. High drama. Settled before penalties.
Netherlands turned me off back in ‘06 with that stinker against Portugal (who also pissed me off), and I can’t stand Robben.
A bit unjust for Iniesta to get the winner. He dove a bit too much for my liking tonight. I think Xavi or Villa or Puyol or Ramos deserved it. But a goal is a goal, and I’m glad it came before penalties.
I hate the diving, I hate offsides, but there’s still a big part of me that loves the beautiful game. I’ll never love it the way I love hockey, but I can’t quit it.

The Dutch should have been playing with 10 men most of the game after that deliberate kick to the chest. There’s literally no room to complain when something like that gets let go.

Well, it was fun chatting with everyone about the World Cup!!!
Now back to the countdown for hockey season.
How disappointing.
I saw it at the theater, in 3D & was really disappointed that they didn’t switch to shirts vs. skins at the half.
Or that the losers didn’t have to forfeit their shirts.
yeah if they at least took off their clothes, this would’ve been worth 3 hours of our lives.
so cool that you got to see it in 3D though!!!

It was cool in 3d, but it wasn’t all 3d like the movies. More like 2.5d. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time tho before they can get live events in ur3D.

If I saw a SOCCER fan...
I would want to kick his ass, just for how pretentious he would be. Now contrast this with my experience at the University of Washington, a neutral site for NHL Fandom. I saw two guys, one with a Hurricanes jersey and the other with a pronger ducks jersey, and I felt the aching urge to wanna buy those guys a beer. Just goes to show that the difference between the two sports are as such to the point where I’d buy a ducks fan a beer. Just shows how sad soccer is.
I like both Soccer and Hockey
And fans of both are awesome. Theyre a different breed thats for sure but still both great to hang out with
