So in looking around at potential trade targets to bolster our D corps I started thinking of what it would take to pry Marc Staal away from the Rangers.

First off: as a RFA Marc Staal is looking for a new contract this summer and from what I have been reading it looks like he wants to get paid. Rangers GM not only has a history of some disastrous contracts to RFA but from some accounts also tends to nickel and dime his RFAs (kinda of like an anti-DW).

Now I'm no expert but I would venture to guess that Marc Staal is looking for a contract in the 3.5 - 4 mil range. If we offer-sheeted Staal at these numbers we would have to give up a 1st and 3rd round pick in next years draft. Would I give that up to get Staal on our team. IN A SECOND.

Another option would be to trade for Staal's rights (obviously work with his agent first to get the basics of a deal hammered out) for something like a 2nd + 3rd + Murray + Mitchell + Prospect.

Obviously we would have to move some salary to get him on the team, but all that can be done.

So I ask you - would you make this deal for a 23 year old Shutdown defenseman with some offensive ability, who also happens to be a Staal brother?
