Jay Leach signs 1 year deal with San Jose
The big UFA signing we've all been waiting for is finally here.
According to Cap Geek, Jay Leach has signed a one year deal with the San Jose Sharks worth $500,000.
Now that Doug Wilson has locked up his cog on the defense, perhaps he'll have more time to explore the trade market.
Try to contain the excitement.

Booooo
This likely means my dream of Semenov returning this season has died once again,
But honestly, I’m okay with this. He seemed like a solid 7th D.

I believe you may have replied to the wrong post
But, honestly, maybe I missed something.
I guess its because I only remember his single contribution to the opponents… Mr. “I’ll-reach-out-to-get-the-puck-but-WHOOPS-I-missed-GOAL-but-not-mine”
How cool? Think Steve Nash...

I see you are referencing Semenov's

I don't know why people focus so much on that.
He tried to stop a puck so he could clear the zone. It was a 1 in 1000 shot that the puck would go into the net.
Because Blake and Boyle never let a goal go in off them…. Oh wait.

Lol I believe you just compared Semenov to Blake and Boyle
However, I guess it’s because I live in Atlanta, so I only get to watch a few Sharks games a season.
How cool? Think Steve Nash...

I'm just saying, it happens to the best of them.
You can’t blame a guy for a fluke play that could happen to anyone.
At the end of his season here, he legitimately played well.

Jay Leach provides the team with added attractiveness as well as what seemed like a good 7th Dman who had energy and some fire to him. Overall, plus!
or at least I remember him as “Hey who’s that good looking dude their interviewing? OH, Jay Leach!”

Wow this site is very impatient. Our huge move last year didn’t come until training camp was already underway. Everyone take a minute to breathe and cool out. Go watch the Giants play the Brewers on tv. (they ran into a team that was scuffling more than them and they finally got rid of Molina.) got to love Buster Posey on youtube principle alone. The collage showing him throwing out a would be stealer in college and clearly shaking his head after the throw out saying “i’m not havin’ it.”
Let’s all have some DW faith. He’ll get something done. He always does.
It was a joke, Plank and I are actually very level headed.
Just like playing into the mass hysteria.

I’m a Giants and Warriors fan. Two teams who haven’t been good or playoff teams for a long time. I get so much frustration with them (well mostly the Giants as the Warriors at least stay entertaining and in games to the very end most nights) that the Sharks consistently being a top team in the league and having a GM of the caliber of DW gives me no worries. The only impatience i have is for it to be October already.

There’s Doug Wilson’s secret weapon.
Also, here’s another guy who got a huge raise.
Fear the Fin - all Evgeni, all the time.
He only got a raise in the sense that he’s getting all of his money from 1 team. I believe this is what he was making last year as well, or damn close to it. It’s minimum wage in the NHL.

Just a tad more, I think $30-40K.

Still, he's the equivalent of the Warriors 12th man

We should really just have him play center on the top line.
And as the wingers.
Instead of HTML, we’d have the www. line! Wallin-Wallin-Wallin!
We’re getting the dude at a steal of 2.5 a year, instead of the 7 we pay jumbo.
Also, Huskins at 1.7 for a guy who knows how to win the cup? Amazing deal!
"Douglas Murray is a humongous human being." – Drew Remenda
Ah, yes, now we’re getting to the heart of why I want to see Thornton as the C. How awesome would it be to see us win a Cup, and Thornton skates over to accept it, flipping the bird to all his haters in the process. I’d lol…

Jumbo, Patty, Heater… all would have their turn. I think Boyle should be captain, as he’s most likely to lead the way with the bird salute.
"Douglas Murray is a humongous human being." – Drew Remenda
Yeah, but Boyle isn’t geting the hate, and has won a Cup. Heatley would be an awesome C when we visit Ottawa next season!

Required roster filler
The Sharks need X number of players on the roster, not counting the Woosta Express riders. Someone like Jay Leach is actually ideal because he knows his role and won’t complain about suiting up every third or fourth game. If it’s a game against known thugs, he’ll go out and run someone, get matching 5-min majors, and keep the peace.

Eh, that's cool.
I always thought Leach was decent. And at 500k, it’s not like he’s stealing too much cap space.

Funny story
My boss just got back from vacation in New Hampshire, and whilst at the gym, he got talking to a guy working out in Sharks gear.
Turned out it was Jay Leach vacationing at Lake Winnipesaukee.
Jay was very complimentary of San Jose. He said that after coming from hockey crazy Montreal to San Jose he didnt know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised that San Jose turned out to be a great hockey town.
When my boss spoke to him he said he didnt know where he was going to be next season, but really liked living and playing in San Jose.
Do I get a call from Doug Wilson now?

Honestly i do like Leach, he’s very solid for such a low cap hit, but i feel like we should’ve at least waited until next week after we’ve seen all our prospects skate before signing Leach. I just think i’d much rather we used that 7th defenseman spot to get better looks at Joslin, Mike Moore, Petrecki, Matt Irwin, etc. and get them some NHL experience.
but we can always bring them up with the Woosta express
better they actually get ice-time in the AHL than the “NHL experience” of sitting in the press box.
Proud member of the "Bring Back Semenov" Club
That costs extra cap space though.
I guess we probably wouldn’t use our 7th defenseman all that much and we wouldn’t want to have AHL prospects just sitting on the bench when they could be playing down in the AHL.
He’s got a 2 way contract, there is no guarantee that he even makes the team.
"Douglas Murray is a humongous human being." – Drew Remenda
You're thinking of a 1-way contract
2-way contract means he has a different (and lower) salary if he plays in Worcester.
However, he is subject to waivers to be sent down so we could still lose him. Darn.

I'm enjoying this.
I really am enjoying just lurking and watching everyone throw little conniption fits because Doug Wilson hasn’t made the move we all know he’s going to make eventually. It’s hilarious.

GO SHARKS GO
This comment breaks my brain. When were the other three times Boyle scored an own goal? And if you’re going to get on Boyle for scoring imaginary own goals, then you have to be pissed at Vlasic and Blake by scoring own goals off various body parts that they couldn’t control.

Fools and Sages
I think Sharks fans come to this site and try to fit in… to do this they believe the best method is to badmouth the team and all of the players because that seems to be what other Sharks fans on other sites do. I mean, if you want to be part of the in crowd on WTC you have to insult David Pollok and talk about how the team will never win.
"Douglas Murray is a humongous human being." – Drew Remenda
yeah I never got this
If you are a fan of the team shouldn’t you at least appreciate what they do and want them to succeed. I always thought part of the fun was the baseless faith that you put in you team to succeed (in the Sharks case not so baseless).
I think he’s confused by instant replays. Everytime they replay it he’s like, “AhhRgghH not againnn!”. That’s the only explanation.
