Modano to the Sharks?
Espn is saying that the Wild and the Sharks are also talking to Modano for next year...thoughts?
"The market for Mike Modano's services appears to be growing. The 40-year-old forward said Friday that the San Jose Sharks and Minnesota Wild have contacted him about the possibility of playing next season."
we all know how DW likes his "tested veterans" but would you guys like to see Modano in teal? Where would he fit? Thoughts?

yes… he replaces manny on the 3rd line, essentially plays the same role that JR did. For nothing else, Stars fans would be fucking furious and I would laugh.

actually in hindsight...
i wish i had taken the middle ground… obviously he is declineing so throwing him wallin-type (term i didnt think i would have ever use going into the offseason) would be too far

If we trade Clowe for Kaberle, which is a strong possibility, we would need a top 6 winger or a 3rd line center to replace couture who would then be our top 6 winger. So Modano could be a very good candidate for a good, but (hopefully) cheap, 3rd line center. If we can sign him for 1.5 million or less, then i say “Hell Yes!”
I also have to think the Red Wings have the advantage
Being that he is from there, and they do these deals with some regularity. I guess if Modano and JR have a good relationship JR could put a good word in for us :P
If Modano did end up on the Red Wings I wouldn’t be trippin all that hard – as it will be one more aging star on a team of them. Injuries did not treat them well last year.
I remember reading some interview with Modano a few weeks ago and Modano said something about wanting to play for one of the teams in the Pacific, I dunno why exactly. Maybe he and his wife want to live in California since his wife (willa ford) is a singer/model/actress.
He was talking about the Kings or Ducks, since they are both near Hollywood and she wouldn’t have to commute much.

Can we offer $1M...
and kick it up $250K for each winning round in the playoffs?

If we are wanting to give old dudes some cash, why not Owen Nolan instead of Modano?
He’s put up decent numbers, and it would actually mean something to bring a guy like that back.
All Modano has ever been for us is a thorn in our side.

If we don't end up getting him
I’d rather see him play in detroit. For as much as I hate the Red Wings, it’d be good to see an aged star end his career in his hometown. Well technically homestate i guess
No way
I don’t want another dinosaur on the team (no offense Blake, I still love you)
Chris Andersen could be in a porno with his 'stache. Too bad he still wouldn't know how to box out.
Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy.

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS
(these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion)
ROSTER: 22; CAP:$59.4m; CARRY-OVER PENALTY: $0.328m;
PAYROLL: $60.229m; CAP ROOM: $0.101m; BONUSES: $0.930m
So, this roster rolls with an extra forward and D-man. You could have Modano play however many games he feels like playing and then roll McLaren in for the times he doesn’t play. The bottom two lines are completely interchangeable…
Modano can still get it done, but I wouldn’t put him on the 4th line. Too skilled to be playing on the 4th line with linemates w stone hands. And at $1.5 mill, far too expensive to be a 4th liner. Also LW isn’t his natural position. Dominic Moore has never impressed me with his play so I’m not sure why we’d want him. Modano over Moore without hesitation.
Also need to leave at least $1 mill in cap room so we don’t play Worcester shuttle and have room for additional trades.

Okay...
So take Moore out and let Modano play third center… We don’t need to have 13 forwards. That leaves us $1.1M in cap space
Belanger instead of Moore
Sign Modano for $1m.
Sign Belanger for $1.5m.
Like others have said Modano can play 3C/RW and step into the top 6 on a pinch. Give him 2nd unit PP time, too.
Belanger is a solid 3C as well. Good on the dot, solid PKer and can score, too. Another vet, too, which I think we need in the locker room.

if the sharks do it they do it
and I know I will definitely purchase a Modano Sharks sweater if they do. Modano has always been one of my favorite players since I was just a little guy.
Dude, lemme getchur keys.
