So who is the next captain?
Well since Blake retired the Sharks are gonna need a new captain. Who should it be? Dan Boyle? Patrick Marleau? Joe Thornton? Joe Pavelski? Joe the Plumber? (okay, so that wasn't funny)The gas station dude? (alright, so I'm NOT funny. I'm just searching for random words to fit the 75 word limit). Leave your answer in the comments and the poll. I say Joe Pavelski should be the next captain, with Jumbo Joe and Boyle getting the A.

I’d love to see Murray get an A this year. See how many hat tricks he can score when given a leadership letter!

He was rocking an A late in the season when the regular letters were injured. It’s possible.

umm..
Yes, he COULD get an A in case of an injury
BUT I don’t think he deserves an A over Thornton Marleau or Pavs

I think we're just teasing...

Yes I know..BUT I’m saying that later on, maybe a season or 2 later, Clowe having an A is a pretty real possibility if he stays and someone leaves or gets traded

That's a sweet notion...
but I don’t think Clowe will last that long to get an A here….All I can hope for is he stays one more season and I’ll be :) Though him with that A couldn’t have made me more proud. He was beaming!!!

Give it back to Marleau. Never should have taken it from him in the first place.

Boyle
Is the only guy on the team I could accept as replacing Marleau. Even Pavelski would give me pause over Marleau.
But then again, he had his best season ever without having a letter… I wonder if that cost us in the negotiation phase of his new contract.

@Evilducks
I think Pavelski is quite suited to the captaincy actually. Either him or Boyle. And if Marleau performs so well without the letter I don’t think we should give it back to him then. I’d say it should go like this.
C: Pavelski
A: Boyle
A: Thornton

the question is
did losing the C have any effect on Marleau’s performance in anyway? who’s to say he wouldn’t have performed equally as well if he had maintained it.
maybe not having the C relieved him of some stress and that’s why he had such an amazing year, but personally, i don’t think that’s the case.
i mean this is his second consecutive career year. the first year he had the C and the second year he didn’t.
I dunno, i just look at the Sharks as being Marleau’s team, that’s why I say give it to him.
However, having stripped him of it just a year ago, it does make it a bit awkward. so if it can’t be Marleau, I guess i’d have to go with Boyle. I like Pavs and think he would make a great captain, but I think he’s gonna have to do some time with an A for now.
although, for some reason I want to think that there’s something that’s standing in the way of Boyle getting the C. he openly said he wanted it last year and they didn’t give it to him. and this is all speculation and probably not true, but i could have sworn i heard something somewhere about either the management or the team or something not thinking Boyle was right for the Captaincy. but again, that’s prob BS.
if it can’t be Patty (which it probably won’t be), then give it to Boyle.
Proud member of the "Bring Back Semenov" Club
Tough Question.
Thornton seems fine with the “A”…Marleau should be the replacement A as he was last year – that’s fine.
Boyle seems to be the favorite, but he seems to be a bit over-emotional and he should be the guy who calms everyone down and gets them focused like Blake did…Blake was always calm and serious and ready to go.
While Pavs is young, it may be worth a shot, but I’m not 100% sure about it either…we’ll see what happens :-)
Go Sharks!
Do not want Joe with the C. Ask the Bruins how that worked out. He does a lot better with tempered expectations.
Same with Patty. He’s flourished without the added pressure of carrying it.
I think it perfectly suits Boyle. He’s a veteran, he’s a very good player, he’s won a Cup, and he is willing to be outspoken when the situation is right. Give Little Joe a nice big A, and when Boyle is gone, give him the C.
Joe with the C
33 points in 23 games in his last partial season with the Bruins!
02-03 – 101 Points in 77 games
03-04 – 73 Points in 77 games
I’d say those were respectable totals. Playoff’s aside that is.
How old was Joe when he was the C in Boston? He’s got 5 more years under his belt now…and he was still a badass witht he C, Boston is just crazy and expected him to single handedly carry the team to a Stanley Cup.
He’d be a fine C.

All great cases
And I have to say that I’d be happy with either Boyle or Pavs getting a C
The other one gets an A and Jumbo gets an A too

Pavs at the Comcast bbq had a "whatever i guess i have to do this" look to me
and thats kind of the attitude i think he (and Marleau had) would have. Not that there is anything wrong with it, I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t jump at added responsibility at work with no pay increase and having to explain department failures to the public.
For some reason I think if you’re going to alter their uniform, they should be one thats going to go into what they do with 110%. Someone like Roenick or Boyle (maybe even Clowe). So I voted Boyle.
I vote for Wallin to be traded to the A's.
Kurt Suzuki would make a good goalie, right?

Oakland Athletics. San Jose Sharks. Sacramento Kings. San Jose Earthquakes. Liverpool FC. UC Davis Aggies.
It’s going to be Boyle and I don’t think there would be anyone in real consideration. I think Pavs will eventually be captain, but it’s no contest for Boyle. Can’t get a better captain than a guy who gets blamed for an “own goal” (even though it was a deflection) and immediately faced the media and took the blame and answered all the questions..then comes back and scores a minute into the next game. Can’t get a better lead by example than that.
this is in jest, but...
the good example there is that he loses us a game, and then comes out and helps us win the next one. It would be great if our captain was just known for winning games – not losing games and then overcoming it.
A captain should be there standing strong even when faces with humiliation and loss. Boyle proved himself on that part honestly. He would make a strong Captain.
