Jamal Mayers inks one year deal with San Jose
According to Andy Strickland, Jamal Mayers has signed a one year deal with the San Jose Sharks. According to Strickland, the deal is worth $600,000.
Mayers split time with the Flames and Maple Leafs last season. He's billed as a big bodied energy winger who skates well and "can" (note sarcasm) kill penalties, but he's 35 and screams "reclamation project" a-la Scott Nichol last year.
Don't expect more than fourth line minutes.

That’s a good question. The Caps have more cap room available, so they could, if they choose, give Mitchell a higher salary.
But will they? That’s the question.
Also, Mitchell is a WC guy, so presumably the Caps would have to pay a premium to get him to move out East. Will they offer him enough of a premium to get him to bite? That’s another question.
I think the ’Nucks and the Wings are out of it, myself, so it comes down to the Sharks or the Caps. I think.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
This move has no bearing on whether or not we get Mitchell.

If we get Mitchell
Somebody on defense is on the way out. Considering the smallest contract we have there is 1.7. There is room.

Well, besides Demers and Leach, but yeah right like we’re really going to move either of them.

Sounds good to me.
But i’m guessing this means that two of Mclaren/Mcintyre/Mashinter/Ferreiro must not have impressed the Sharks during their prospect camp, since there’s no longer room for a couple of them.
Might be more a case of "Safety Net"
Better to have some veteran presence than count on 4 rookies. But yeah, probably true that they’re not going to take all 4, for whatever reason.

That clip is funny, but Sutton was being kind of a dick. You don’t have to have been an ex-player to ask a question in a media interview.
To be fair, the guy asking the question was being kind of a dick by implying that it was certainly an illegal hit (elbow, IIRC?) when the replay was questionable at best.
It's nothing but crumpled porno and Ayn Rand.
Yeah. The dickmosphere was pretty thick during that interview. But someone’s gotta ask the obvious questions.
Oh my
Dickmosphere is my new favorite word for sure.

Since we can't clone Nichol this will do.
We need more players willing to play the body day in and day out.
For 600,000 I am willing to see if he is willing to fill that role.
Fantastic
Now all the Sharks need is to trade for Kaberle and they can recreate this but in teal instead.
Seriously, though, good depth signing.

number?
anyone have an idea on his number because he likes 21 and thats taken and more recently he has worn 19 and that is also taken
Wasn't he..
Part of the 99-2000 Blues team that won the Presidents trophy and they came into San Jose with a fairly arrogant attitude for first round festivities. Mr. Mayers had bleach blond eye brows to start the series which made me chuckle. Owen Nolan had that mid-ice goal and San Jose went on to close the Blues out..in seven games if my memory serves me correctly.
Seems like so long ago. Probably for Mayers, too, with that hair. I’m sure it’ll somehow be brought to his attention.
I was going to say it doesn’t seem that long ago. :) I think he actually had striped eye brows. One of them did anyway.

So, not the veteran 3rd/4th liner I was hoping we’d get, but he sure comes cheap.
But the cheaper the 3rd/4th line addition, the more money we have to offer Willie Mitchell. We can only hope that’s the next shoe to drop during Shark Week.
And hey, 15 fights for Mayers last season, so it’ll be fun to watch him drop the gloves once in a while (maybe while McLaren serves another apprenticeship in Worcester?).

He was a fan favorite in STL, and yes, he had the striped eyebrows when a lot of the other guys dyed their hair for the 2000 playoffs.
Hard worker, stood up for this teammates when called for. Did a lot of charity work (known for animal charities, if I recall). Was known for speed, and for shooting the puck seemingly directly at the goalie’s crest.
Not flashy, but I don’t recall ever seeing a game where he took a shift off.
