Jeff Passan has generally given pretty fair and even handed coverage to every sport, so I found this article to be pretty interesting. I feel as though his message, "one day, just one day, watch one game" is the same rallying cry for me trying to convince people to watch hockey. It's also interesting given the NBA lockout. Everyone keeps saying that this will be the time the NHL really grows. I'm not sure I feel as though it NEEDS to do anything different. The NHL's core strength is local teams, and so long as fans in markets are invested in the game in large enough numbers, the league will be just fine. It has an entertaining product, and shouldn't worry about comparing itself to anyone else. Get fans in a seat, and let the game sell itself.
