my first FAWM song: "1-0 in Neverland"

As some of you may know, February is National Album Writing Month, or FAWM.

It's similar to Nanowrimo (which I do every year) and Script Frenzy (same). The idea is to write a certain amount of whatever by the end of the month. But I have not written an album before; I wrote some spoken word and a lot of poetry, but not a song. FAWM forces you to write 14 songs in February, put them to a melody, and perform and record them. I have written 1 so far because of work. And it's about the Sharks.

So since we are kind of tearing up inside in the blistering wake of 2 crap losses to vomit-inducingly bad teams anyway, I might as well post it here before I post it over at FAWM.org and get laughed at because everyone else is better. If you have some comments, plz share. I don't know lolly **** about melody so I just underlined the syllables with emphasis in my notebook, but if you listen to the Smash Mouth song I kind of stole all the emphasis from there anyway. (And everything else. You have to start somewhere...it's like parody!)

Oh yeah--the prompt for that week was to use numbers in the title and refrain of the song, thus I naturally thought of hockey.

"1-0 in Neverland" (to the tune of "Your Man" by Smash Mouth)

Why do I root for you

The only times that you're good is when they're not so good

And games can be tied until I'm like why oh why, team teal

And it's all you

I watched you late last night

Because PST time 7:30 is 9:30 on my coastline

And when you let fights slide, like you lost your mind,

I want to punch too,

oooeeeeoooh.

(Refrain)

Guess you weren't too bitter then

When you shutout the Kings one-zero in Neverland

And beat Hiller with that first-five-minute slapshot

You aren't doing it all for naught

You played heartbreak hockey all along

And you know hundreds of ways to get to the box,

and you'll try them all

And when you let fights slide, like you lost your mind,

I wanna punch too

I don't know how you deserve fans like these

The only reason I see, some sort of rabid loyalty

Some people see a dying breed, and some will always believe

Like me

I'll fly to San Jose through Denver if I have to

Got to see Seto and Couture

As long as you guys play

For the Pavilion crew

Guess you weren't too bitter then

When you shutout the Kings 1-0 in Neverland

And beat Hiller with that first-five slapshot

You aren't doing it all for naught

All for naught

Pavelski Clowe Seto, Boyle Heatley,

Demers, Thornton, Wellwood, Niemi

The San Jose Sharks you are, and I am

I am a ridiculously optimistic fan

You played heartbreak hockey all along

And you know hundreds of ways to get to the box, and

you'll try them all

And when you run out in the third

You've gotta move

As long as that puck is loooose

You weren't too bitter then

When you shutout the Kings one-zero in Neverland

And beat Hiller with that first-five-minutes slapshot

You aren't doing this all for naught

All for naught

All for naught x4
