Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

Thank You From Vancouver

I know most of you hate our team right now. I don't blame you. Game five was an example of the Sharks pressing for their lives and getting the best out of all their players, you deserved a better fate. One that wasn't decided by a weird bounce or a suspect call here and there. Those are the elements outside of the control of the players.

The Sharks brought to the ice deserve a mad amount of respect: Marleau was constantly dangerous, Boyle was as good as advertised, Murray is tremendous and not enough can be said about Thornton. Honestly a better leader you'd be hard pressed to find. There was no let up in San Jose's attack. The only Sharks player I can point a finger and laugh is Wellwood and he had a huge game five, so I have nothing to laugh at anymore. Just respect: I respect San Jose.

We'll see you guys again. You're a hell of a team that never quits. From what I saw I'd be proud to call myself a Sharks fan. I know you all know that.

Thank you for a big series.

I don’t hate Vancouver. I hate the Sharks. My own team. The Sharks were clearly the better team……..when they skated. The Sharks beat themselves in the series by stopping skating, while the Nucks kept up the pace. Not trying to take anything away from the Nucks, good team, but it was consistant control by the Sharks until an intermission would come and they came out of the dressing room noticeably slower and not skating. Then Game 4, it was like none of them came to the rink awake for the early game (thanks for that btw NBC…).

It is a shame, Game 5 was one of the best so far, and again Sharks were skating, Sharks were dominating, but just couldn’t get any bounces while Nucks did.

That is what is so heartbreaking. Last year’s loss to Chicago was a simple case of “We got spanked by the better team in all areas…” but this year is like “Man what a gyp, prob lost it to injuries and fatigue”. At least it wasn’t a sweep.

Hopefully we can get rid of Huskins and Wallin now and get a real 4 mil shutdown UFA to pair with White.

"better when we skated"

Yes you are right, but the reason we lost this series was not because we did not skate all the time. The reason we lost this series is because The canucks made us stop skating more than we made vancouver stop skating. I know it is a sad prospect, but they beat us by tiring us out more than we did to them. The Canucks looked like the better team when they were skating. So they kept us down longer than we did to them.

Not really. What you’re talking about is an in period thing. Pressure put on by one team wearing them down in their defensive zone etc. I’m talking about the overall pace of the game from period to period. It wasn’t anything the Canucks were doing differently, it was simply the Canucks continued at the pace they were going, while the Sharks didn’t. As a result, the Sharks then were caught chasing and then getting even more tired in their own end which then led to coverage mistakes and opportunities.

The Canucks may have contributed to it through heavy hitting in their playstyle, but what I’m trying to say is that it wasn’t a result of suddenly the Canucks putting on a burst of speed/jump/whatever and directly causing them to stop playing.. It was them enduring it for the full 60 minutes where the Sharks couldn’t, for whatever reason.

Oh well, its over, on to next season! Summer go away fast!

and I guess

“hatred” can be directed either inwardly or outwardly… or both. :p

And to you as well

Honestly, I hate the fact that the despite how close this series was, people will remember it took five games for the Canucks to beat the Sharks. Regardless, I know firsthand the passion of Canucks fans after living in Vancouver for a couple of years. Your team is getting all the right bounces and the big goals during the biggest moments. Thank you for your class with your kind words for us Sharks fans (unlike some other Canuck fuckers). I fully believe the Canucks will end the 40 year drought after surviving test after test in these Stanley Cup playoffs. Congratulations, you guys deserve it.

Go Sharks!

Too bad,

It all had to end on a questionable call and a flukey goal.
What a bunch of warriors on the Sharks team! I’m actually disappointed we won’t be seeing an epic game 6 tomorrow night* (more relieved than disappointed, truthfully). Reload Sharks, and I’m sure we’ll meet again same time next year! For all the Sharks fans – may your team get you the Cup championship you deserve sooner than rather than later.

thanks...

Just a teensy semantical point (which you may have intended)… as Sharks fans, we’d like a cup, but the players deserve one more than we do… :] But thanks for your kind words.

Thank you for your words!!!

You actually made me tear up after I read them. What great things you said. Good luck to you and your team as they play for the Cup! But watch out, we will be back next season!! Best of luck to you!!! :-)

We ARE the better team

But LA and Detroit took too much out of us. Vancouver had easier Rounds 1 & 2.

It is what it is…I’m looking forward to next year!

Lessons learned:

Take care of business EARLY, otherwise, business will take care of YOU.

Every second on the ice counts, so stay alert. You can go on cruise control during the regular season, but never during the playoffs. The moment you do, you WILL pay for it.

They had an easier round two

But they earned that by being the best team in the Conference in the regular season
And that’s still no excuse for us, we were in the same position last year as them: Well rested after quickly dispatching our opponent in round two facing a tired opponent, and Chicago still kicked that sh*t out of us
They capitalized on the power play all series and we didn’t

Vancouver should have lost to Chicago...

We’d have swept Nashville by now :(

Not true exactly.

If Chicago won, San Jose would have faced them in Round 2. Only way to play Nashville would be in the WCF if they got through Detroit (who they had real success in the regular season with, so it wouldn’t have been out of the question).

Nashville is kinda like how Phoenix was a few seasons ago: A severely out-talented team that still manages to give the Sharks a lot of trouble (Hint: It’s a trap).

Thank You

Glad to see fans still have class. There will always be the trolls. Canucks are like the older cousin to the sharks. Twice as long in the league, but still no Stanley. Sort of hope you guys get it, tough to see it have to go through us though…

Thanks for this.

An classy (teehee) gesture and now that my head’s cleared a bit after the loss I can really appreciate it. Good luck in the Stanley Cup finals!

Same as Yankee for me. You guys have a great team, and that is a tough way to lose. We have been there. Canuck fans know all about those weird disappointments.

Does not make it any easier. We will see you guys again and again.

That Couture kid. Pure hockey player there. Hold on to him!
