Philly Blowing Things Up!!
What is going on in the City of Brotherly Love?? The two guys deemed instrumental in getting the Phlyers to their Cup appearance in 2009-10 have been dealt away today!
To LA
Mike Richards
To PHIL
Wayne Simmonds
Brayden Schenn
2nd Round Pick
To CBJ
Jeff Carter
To PHIL
Jakub Voracek
2011 First & Third Round Picks
Then the Phlyers sign Bryzgalov to huge contract: 9 yrs, $51M for a cap hit of $5.66M per season. Wow! I wonder why the Phlyers are dumping their young "untouchable" future. After all, just last offseason they signed Carter to a 12 year deal and now, one year later, they send him to Columbus? Wacky stuff. Makes me appreciate Doug Wilson a bit more...

I really like Mike Richards
Flyers were my 2nd favorite team mostly because they had him.
And now they trade him to a team in our division? Bastards!

If we could, many of us would take him back and fix that division problem for you.

Yeah, it sounded like most of the people in Philly and elsewhere were very against the Richards trade.
More split on Carter.

Yikes, LA is going to be scary next year
Their ridiculous defense will only get better. (Maybe Scuderi will go downhill a bit, but Doughty and Johnson should only get better). And they have finally have someone other than Kopitar on offense.
I was stunned when I saw Carter get traded.
Then the Richards thing happened. Their wing depth took a tumble, but LA’s pretty deep down the middle now. It’ll be interesting to see what the other teams around the division and conference do to respond to these deals.

(aargh keyboard fail) Philly’s overpaying for Bryz. I don’t think he’s worth over 5 mil/yr

jesus, I’m trippin again, okay I see the salary now, I thought they were giving him the $7 mil that was rumored a couple days ago. WTF though. And now we have to deal with Richards in L.A.

I just think its funny how they had one of the best rookie goaltenders in the league and then go and sign Bryz to a 9 year deal. It is crazy. I know they kept saying they wanted solid goaltending, but that means a 3-4 year deal, which would give you a vet while letting Bob develop in the backup role (or keep Bouche/Leighton as backup and have Bob in the AHl for playtime).
Instead they signed Bryz and if he turns sour they are stuck with him for forever (like the Hawks and Huet, though their term wasn’t as long and they were able to put him in the swiss league to at the very least null his cap hit, regardless of the fact they’re still paying him almost 6 mil to play the elsewhere) and are sending a message to Bob at the same time. Having a bonafide #1 starter will likely curb some of Bob’s development, since they’ll be looking to Bryz for a long time, and if Bob surpasses Bryz then oops theres 5 mil for a backup!
And then on top of that they traded 2 of their best offensive guys! Gl making it deep in the playoffs Flyers, gotta hope that prospect you traded for blooms fast because otherwise this will be a Flyers development season instead of adding the goalie piece that they “needed”.
Looks like it's working out for them
They ended up with a steal in Couturier at #8 in this years’ draft. Schenn and Couturier now in their system to replace Richards and Carter I guess.
