Who is your favorite (active) former Shark?
With the well-liked Setoguchi heading to Minnesota, I thought this might be a good time to bring up the saddest side effect of the "business" of hockey - dearly departed Sharks.
There are plenty of former Sharks who are still playing professional hockey. We loved them while they were here, but they had to go for the better (we hope) of the team. So let's show some love for them!
Who is your favorite former Shark who is still playing professionally? I know Owen Nolan is going to win, but let's try to be interesting and have some cool fandom stories and maybe some interesting picks too ok guys!? Please?! Because I had to do the research to find out who was still playing and if only Cheech and Nolan get votes then what was the point righttttt? OK!????? I think I got all the words I needed to get for a fanpost, here's the poll now ( in a pretty random order):
Let me know if I forgot anyone.

It was definatley a close call between Shelley and Semenov
But I had to pick Shelley, he’s one of the most honorable and charismatic characters in hockey today
Michalek
He was so awesome. I remember (this was shortly after I became a close fan of the Sharks), he was practically a main icon for the team and was so versatile and well-rounded.
He could have been a star for SJ in my opinion
Then the Heatley trade happened…and his career got derailed by injuries… =/

Good choice.
I think he was underrated when he was here.

That was me, and it was a sincere vote ...
I am gonna miss him to be quite honest,
Yes, he was terrible most of the time, but there were times where you had to say, "Holy crap
Hamburgers, that was a pretty decent move.
This one play comes to mind, where there was a very high airborne puck in the crease, and it could have very well have hit nemo/niitty in the back and trickled in for a soft goal, but Nicky Wallin laid out for the puck and batted it behind the goal.
As well as the Hamburglar meme, I will miss that one a bunch.
Who will be the butt of the jokes now?
If we had won the cup, he could have been the one that we pointed too and said, “Niclas Wallin has a ring, why don’t you Mr. Ovechkin?” (I realized halfway through writing that that he does have a ring already, go figure)
I will miss you Hamburgerz.

I agree with you one hundred percent
That’s good it wasn’t a sarcastic vote. I hope he does well in Sweden.

I actually really liked Wallin... ABSOLUTELY HATED HIS CONTRACT.
I REALLY liked him when he was on his game and making heads up smart plays…
BUT YEAH… 2.7 A YEAR? COME ON… I DONT FEEL THAT’S WARRENTED… [/ninafragment]

I voted for Seto since I could only vote for one.
But it’s probably a toss-up between him, Nolan, and Nabby.

this is what Mike would shout at opposing goalies, in hopes that they would give him a better opportunity to score a goal. Alas, even if they obeyed, it made no difference.

I voted Teemu Salami (I swear, that's how TSN's Darren Dreger says it).
Seriously hope that guys signs with the Jets this year.

Highly doubt he's leaving Southern California...
4 kids and a wife… as COOL as it would be for him to play one more year up north to lock up his, very successful career, I dont feel it’s happening. Anaheim again, or retire.

Alexander K.
Because my friend, his brother, and I went to Sharks practice when we were younger kids and he flipped each of us a puck. What was great about the whole thing though, was that each puck got stuck between the netting and the glass, so he had difficulty with each puck and had to bang on the glass a lot which made us all laugh and then he signed it. That was one of my top Sharks moments. What a guy.

I would say #2 Tony Granato
His daughter was in my 1st or 2nd grade class so I got invited to his daughter’s Birthday party. I was in Tony’s carpool so I thought it’d be clever to wear my Canucks shirt (I have family in Vancouver so they gave it to me as a gift). We had a some fighting words for each other in good spirit because he knew I like SJ more anyways. Then later my dad and I went to Sharks Ice for a table signing a little while later and none of the players that were expected to make it could make it except for Tony. He said something along the lines of “you know you could get a signature from me anytime you want, right?” But he signed my old white jersey and a 10 year anniversary Sharks magazine. That’s all for story time. Time for bed.

I miss Nabby....
He was the goalie when I started to really get into hockey in 2009. I remember my FIRST Sharks game and Nabby doing splits and great saves and I was like “damn!” And then I loved his humor, his “happy feet” , etc. I hope that Nabby plays this year! Even if he isnt a Shark anymore, I would still like to see him in net against the Sharks now, just to see him play again.
Go Nabby!! Miss ya!
"Sometimes the only sense you can make out of life is a sense of humor!"
Believing in Team Teal since 2009. Go Sharks!!!!
Manny!
I thought I would be a lone vote for Manny Malhotra….we missed the heck out of him this year and is what we are looking for in a new forward…
Tough call though…I can’t say I hate many of these guys
Word.

Owen Nolan...
1994 made me become a fan of this team…
Owen Nolan made me fall in absolute love with it…
That, and plays like the center-ice ROCKET SHOT that put a HUGE black mark on Turek’s career…

This is entertaining just to see some of the joker names on it
Sort of like watching the start of American Idol just to see some guys who sucked or were totally invisible. I mean really, Jay Leach? Grant Stevenson? Were guys like that included so that if someone actually voted for them they’d get banned from here?
Well, a mod voted for Semenov.

spinoff question -
which of these players would you most like to have back on the team as it’s currently constituted?
Marcel Goc
No-brainer for me. He would be awesome on our third line third year.

Frankly, he’s my favorite hockey player of all time, let alone Sharks player. Marleau is a close second though.
