Interesting.
I’d be curious to see the ‘07-’08 for both guys, but especially Heatley, since I think it’d help show the pattern a little more.
Also, there’s been some chatter about Heatley being used incorrectly by making him play a more defensive game and putting him on the other wing than he used to play (though I remain somewhat unconvinced, personally). Still, it’s worth asking the questions about if those things make up the difference in his even-strength decline, or if those things are a separate or marginal issue toward his production.

Those suggestions strike me as convenient post-hoc explanations, personally. I mean if you can throw a $7.5M off a cliff in terms of possession by playing him on the other wing, then he’s not much of a player anyways.
Not that the Sharks have to worry about it. Incidentally, Devin Setoguchi’s 2 year corsi-tied rate was only marginally above Heatley’s and he’s gone too!
