Sharks extend defenseman Brent Burns for five years
In what can be considered both great and surprising news, the San Jose Sharks announced this morning that they have signed recently acquired all-star defenseman Brent Burns to a five-year contract extension. With what the Sharks gave up to get Burns (Devin Setoguchi, Charlie Coyle and a first round pick), it was important to get Burns locked up long-term. According to David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News, the cap hit on the deal comes to $5.75MM annually. Considering what Burns could have gotten in the insane UFA market, this deal can be considered another steal for Doug Wilson.
