Why don't the Sharks think about picking up Scott Hannan?

He'd seem like the defensive-minded shutdown type D-man they need.

The blueline is fine. We’ve got 3 top pairing D, 3 solid second pairing guys, a veteran #6 guy who’s going to be a healthy scratch and a young defenseman who would normally get NHL time stashed in the minors.

Sharks have one of the best D lineups in the NHL.

Why in the world would they pick up an aging, slow, defensive guy? He’d only be a poor man’s Vlasic.

It's a moot point, but

would you guys rather have White or Hannan?

Hannan might be a bit better.

But I doubt he’d be a better value. Getting White for $1 mil is a steal.

DW wanted to toughen up to the blue line

He signed Vandermeer for his grit. Colin White adds grit too and he’s a better player than Vandermeer so when he became available DW jumped at the chance to make a good D-core even better. Scott Hannan isn’t as tough as those two, plus he’s aging and most likely would want a bigger contract than $1 mil.
Without Mayers, Eager, or Nichol we’ve lost most of the toughness in our line-up (still have Clowe), so I’d rather have Colin White than Scott Hannan.
