Jon Allred: FTF's New Columnist Covering the 2011-2012 Worcester Sharks

Greetings fellow Sharks fans. My name is Jon Allred and I will be covering the Worcester Sharks for Fear The Fin this upcoming season with a weekly wrap-up report that will highlight and recap the action in "The Woo", along with a separate weekly report on an individual Sharks prospect.

A little about myself-- I attended my first Sharks game as an eight-year-old fin head in April 1993 when the Sharks were still playing at the Cow Palace. On that night, the Sharks played the Winnipeg Jets and even though the Sharks were defeated 9-5, I instantly became a fan of hockey and the Sharks.

I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay in 2007 with a degree in journalism and created my San Jose/Worcester Sharks blog, “Finz and Stitches,” this past February. Wanting my blog to stand out from others, my San Jose Sharks game recaps consists of me breaking the games down into “hits and misses” with the hits being the positives from the game and the “misses” being the negatives.

Due to not purchasing AHL Live last season, I wasn’t able to do the same for the Worcester Sharks. Instead, I listened their games on WTAG Radio via online and did a weekly post where I recapped their games for the week using the Worcester Sharks website as my source of information.  In addition, I was able to conduct mini interviews with current and former Worcester players during the season via email and Facebook messaging.

Wanting to do something different to pass the summer weeks, I have stayed busy by doing research articles on all Sharks prospects and been fortunate enough to interview some of the prospects as well.

Below are links to examples of my work:

Hits and Misses:  Sharks vs. Kings Game 6

Prospect Profile:  J.P. Anderson, Marek Viedensky, William Wrenn

Interviews:  Brandon Mashinter, Freddie Hamilton, Dylan DeMelo

Worcester WeeklyMarch 27 weekend recap

Fun Stuff:  20 Years Blood, Sweat, Teal Tribute

I would like to thank the staff at Fear the Fin for this great opportunity and I look forward to a tremendous season in both Worcester and San Jose.

As always, Go Sharks Go!

9-5 to the jets?

Man… how come scorelines like that don’t come around more often… (I mean, the 14 in game goals, not the 9-5 loss)

Drew: 'Oh no.. That is certainly the meaty part alright, but it's not the thigh..."
Randy: "No... that bone is NOT connected to the thigh bone..."

That had to be the year

Teemu scored 70+ goals. Now why couldn’t he do that for us?

Because the Jets only just became a team again? Or that they have the offensive firepower of the Thrashers? ;)

Finally...

I was hoping someon would eventually write about the WorSharks! It’s going to be a very, very interesting year in Worcester. At last count, there are at least 10 new guys joining the team this season – and with the team losing a few of their top scorers, it looks like this may be a bit of a transition year.

Welcome!

A bit of advice, though: COMMENT.

We like the people who post the articles to feel like a part of the community and the best way to do that is to have conversations with us rather than just post your articles on time. I’m not familiar with your work, but I’m intrigued and gladly welcome some insight into the boys out in Woosta.

Hang around for a while. respond to comments/questions. Pop in for some gameday threads.

Maybe, I shouldn’t be speaking for everyone here, but I personally prefer it when the authors of the posts interact with everybody.

Anyway, sorry to note you to death. Welcome to FTF, I’m looking forward to reading your stuff!

Thank You Everyone

Hello everyone. I’m not sure I’m suppose to comment in my own post but I after reading all of these comments, I can’t help myself.

Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments. I have not stopped smiling all day. I have to thank Mr. Plank for all he has done and he can attest that I was nervous about my introduction post because I wanted to make a good first impression on the readers here. If it wasn’t for his email last night, I would’ve been a nervous wreck all night lol.

I am looking forward to chatting with you all of you regarding the Worcester and San Jose Sharks and prospects.

I did forget one thing in my post…….if any of you need to contact me, feel free to email me at either bigjonallred@yahoo.com or sjsharksfan1984@gmail.com. In addition, I am on twitter and you can follow @bigjonallred

Thank you again for all the love you have shown with your comments and I am beyond excited/stoked for the season to start and to be a part of the team here.

It’s totally cool to comment on your own post, especially in response to user comments/queries.

I can’t speak for everyone, but as I said above, I like a little back and forth with the authors, so keep it up!

No to need to be nervous

FTF and most other SBNation blogs are real laid back. It’s just a place where fans come together to talk/joke about the team they love.

That’s pretty much what Mr. Plank said last night that calmed my nerves lol. I did see the first comment before I went to bed and I was like, “Oh no” lol.

Haha, that first comment is part of a little internet meme that got started on this blog. (AND IT NEEDS TO DIE ALREADY IMO)

I’ve read a bunch of your stuff over at Finz and Stitches, so I’m excited to get some Wuhsta Shahks updates here at FtF! Welcome!

I’m a long-time reader of FtF, but I’m new to the commenting world, so since this is your first post as a writer, I figured now would be a good time to jump into the mix, post my first comment and actually start commenting. :)
