Winter Classic 2013 Detroit

Most likely Red Wings vs Maple Leafs: Story. Bit of a let down for anyone who thought the Sharks were a dark horse candidate. I'm surprised to see the league go with a Canadian team for the event. It was almost inevitable that Detroit would host this year but I don't think I like the match up too much. Toronto Maple Leafs? Sure, great fan base and a storied franchise, but I would have preferred to see the HBO cameras following Brent Burns into his reptile infested home, or even worse, his closet.

from what I hear

the league is pushing to get a California team in the Winter Classic in the upcoming years.

While it would be awesome to see a Detroit v Sharks Winter Classic, I just don’t understand the Maple Leafs being in it. It is an american team vs american team tradition, on top of teams that have some kind of rivalry story, so why would the Wings play the Leafs? It just makes like no sense from a rivalry sense. Chicago v Detroit I could buy, even Detroit v St Louis, or hell EVEN Detroit v Vancouver if you go vs Canadian team. But Detroit v Maple Leafs? They’re not even in the same conference……..

It is just baffling…..if Detroit is in the winter classic for sure, then what better opponent and rivalry than Sharks v Wings, two teams that have had mutliple storied playoff series even before the last 2 seasons of Sharks knocking out the Wings in the 2nd round……

Toronto…….BAH…….totally passing around the crack pipe…..

I'm wondering

if it was part of a deal to get some of the Canadian teams’ managements to vote for Bettman’s realignment/playoff scheme.

If you mention ending your life, or show signs of self-harm, I will take you seriously!

In the video of some guy talking about the announcement on NHL’s site it was mentioned that it is probably branching to a canadian/american team for ratings. The NHL saw how big the Canucks Bruins finals was ratings wise and so they’re looking to pull more of the canadian market in. Also with the venue close to Toronto, they can sell more seats from people coming down.

Analysis made sense to me, though irritating in how rating based the move seemed to be.

2014 will almost assuredly be in Yankee Stadium, as their New Year’s Eve bowl game contract is expiring next year.

Maybe some uber-rich people can pony up money for some portable bleacher seating in Lake Tahoe, Or why not pac bell park – hell they played some events in 60 degree weather at the Salt Lake Winter Games in 2002.

There will NEVER be a Winter Classic IN California, but I do think teams FROM California will be in one soon.

Baaaaaaaaah

Toronto instead of SJ vs. Detroit…really? Oh well…f*** the NHL. Go Sharks!

Go Sharks!

The best part about SJ possibly being in a winter classic in years to come is what there jersey will be. If they are even in one I’ll be the first in line for that jersey.
