Disallowed OT goal v. CAL & postgm interviews Wingels, Thornton & McLellan
For those who missed it, here is the highlight of the botched OT goal v. CAL on Tues 1/17. The ref who called it was the one who was 90 feet away, not the one closest to the play. I don't understand how the ref could be so sure that he saw the "interference" since he was so far away from the action.

Wingel's Stick
It looked to me like Wingels kinda poked Kipprusoff in the right pad with his stick right before the goal. Is it possible this is what the refs saw and maybe led to Kipper losing his balance.
Of course, I would have loved for this to have counted, but it seemed to me not as blatant of a bad call as everyone was making it out to be…
I don't think so.
again, the ref making the call was 80-90 feet away, so clearly they assumed. 80-90 feet is a long way to see close up details, especially because Wingels gave Kipper a snow shower.

Alright, fair enough
Just doing a bit of devil’s advocacy.
BTW if you were to set up a stream, I’m sure many people would be willing to throw down some bucks. I sure would, I’m tired of shitty, unreliable streams when I’m having to watch at work.
Thanks for the info about the stream...
do you have a link to show me how to do it? Thanks.
I have no idea
I just saw that JakeBot had said in the game thread that he was thinking about doing it.
Poking a goalie in the leg pads isn’t goaltender interference anyway.
The back official just saw Wingels in front of the crease, and Kipper going down. From his angle, he couldn’t have seen Jokinen make contact with Kipper because of where Wingels was positioned. But Jokinen was clearly moving into the play behind Wingels, so it’s another reason for the official to not make that call.
Whatever. Bad calls happen, and the only possible future harm is theoretical. But this is a textbook example of why all potential scoring plays should be reviewed, or there should be a coaches challenge, or something.

The flag idea Toddy Mac sounds cool.
But you just know people like John Tortorella and Terry Murray would abuse the SHIT out of those flags.

Oh yeah?
That’s not so bad then. I can imagine Tortorella, “Avery called me a name, review it and give him a time-out. >:”
