NHL on NBC

How does everyone feel about the change from Vs. to the NBC Sports Network and do you think it will help boost national interest in hockey? Personally, I've noticed pretty substantial increase in hockey fans in the past few years around where I live in central California. I just saw a commercial for some upcoming college hockey games and I thought that was pretty exciting for the game as a whole. I wonder if it has to do with more television coverage, or in the west coast's case, just a natural progression of interest since the Wayne Gretzky/LA Kings era? Does anyone have any statistics on this topic? Sorry if this has been touched on before.

They don't stand a chance against ESPN

Its a neat idea and it will definitely help Hockey but only a little bit. They still need more original programing and a lot less motocross and stuff to keep up.

All in all, decent news for Hockey fans. NBC sports network is trying to copy ESPN but will get destroyed in the ratings. Because ESPN has established pure dominance in basketball and football even though they only air one football game per week.

NBC needs to start showing more hockey, period. ESPN used to have multiple games a week… and NBC needs to commit to that. There’s no way sporadic coverage is going to help draw in more fans.

It’d be nice if they managed to start covering things like the WJCs too. Those games are actually pretty exciting, because everyone on the ice sure as hell cares about the outcome of the game.

At least the old VS would show some hockey games

and even reair a coulpe of games later that morning or mid-afternoon the next day. The new NBC doesnt seem be do showing any games at all. No improvement at all

While I personally like the sports coverage that only gets a blurb at best on sportscenter

IE Downhill skiing or Bobsleigh
I agree that they should show as much hockey as possible
