When I look at the Sharks I feel that they need another forward that could play in their top-six to help spread out scoring depth. As nice as it is to see McGinn contribute I don’t feel that our third line as presently constructed is a reliable producer like it was last year down the stretch. I think that if the Sharks are going to make a trade it will be for a pending UFA on a stuggling team that is just looking for some kind of return in terms of prospects or draft picks. I could make a list of ‘second line types’ that fit this criteria and I actually have been doing so for a while but I think that we might have to wait a few weeks to find out what teams are sellers and which ones are trying to add pieces to make a playoff run.
I'll make one..
Nielsen, Rutuu, Hecht, Purcell, Moss probably in that order…they are all good 2 way forwards who can PK and chip in some goals…Moss and Purcell probably won’t fill in on the 2nd line very well but would be good next to McGinn and Handzus.
What are the first names and current teams of those players?

Purcell is definitely top six caliber. Plays a lot with Lecavalier

Under contract next year for ~2.7 mil too.
I’d love him on the Sharks but he’s not a pending UFA which is why I’m not sure he would be moved.
Both Tampa & Edmonton need help on D badly and Tampa in goal as well…Ryan Jones is also signed through next year so I think a deal could be made with both of those teams.
However, TB may not want to part w/ Purcell for anything less than an overpayment. I think Jones could be had for a 2nd and a close to NHL ready D prospect.
I like Purcell a lot, but I don’t think there’s any way we get him.

Vandermeer for Lidstrom.
McGinn for Nugent-Hopkins.
Niity for a guy like Quick or Thomas.

Lidstrom's too old
I feel like they’d have to throw in some picks. Or maybe we could trade Vandermeer for Weber instead.
More along the lines of what I was thinking.

Quick off-topic question...
Any idea on when Sheppard gets back from injury?

Ales Hemsky
I know people feel that he is injury prone; however, maybe this will make acquiring him cheaper. He is coming off some injuries, but he is a legitimate top-six forward with great skill. He could be a great addition to the team whether he performs at a top-six level or not. It would provide more scoring pop for the third line. He is currently struggling point wise; however, he is shooting a meager .078 which is significantly worse than his career average and about half of last season’s shooting percentage. One would believe a change of scenery – perhaps a reduced roll or expectations – could be all he needs to thrive again. At only 28, he is far from over in the NHL. He could be a great addition to the PP unit which is lackluster 18% for 15th best in the league. In addition, past performance suggests this guy ACTUALLY shows up in the playoffs. Last time he was in the playoffs was in 2006 when the Oilers made a run to the finals. He had 17 pts in 24 games with 6 goals and 11 assits.
It seems evident that Edmonton will be a seller and that Hemsky is on his way out. Reporters for the Oilers feel its a WHEN and not an IF at this point. With potential trade targets including that of LA and Detroit, it is almost reason enough to snag him instead of a conference rival. It is all a matter of price. The Oilers want to add to defense, and I am not suggesting any means that Braun or Demers is dealt. But perhaps the combination of someone off Worcester packaged with a draft pick might be enough. Whatever is dealt could likely be regained by trading off Nitty to a team in need of goaltending as Greiss has proven himself to be the better option for backup (cheaper, a year remaining under contract and just plain better).

Not too against this. His value is at an all time low, and his injury proneness is less of a factor than ever because we don’t have to deal with him long term. If we could somehow get Hemsky and one more solid depth forward the sharks roster would be amazing.

Hope that nashville starts to slip
The trade havlat+prospect+1st round pick for Weber or havlat straight up for surer :D
Is Greiss a trade asset?
Unfortunately, I think Greiss is in the trade mix. Niittymaki is basically untradeable. With his performance and low-cost contract, Greiss is much more likely to fetch what DW wants going down the stretch. Then Niitty will be called upon to play a half-dozen or so games in the final months of the season.
