Why not J. Cheechoo

Stay connected for news and updates

With the trade deadline approaching I was wondering why there hasnt been any mention of the possibility of bringing back J. Cheechoo to the organization. He is 31 years old so definitely not past his prime, he would cost the sharks a 5th rounder at best considering he is playing with the blues AHL affiliate, and he was an AHL all star last season with Worcester.

I understand that the sharks will not expect him to be a top 6 forward or even a top 9 forward but bringing him back to the sharks I think would only be a positive for the organization. A 5th rounder for cheechoo would be great and he could fill in on the 4th line as a winger. (I think this trade would be more cost effective than a 2nd rounder for D. Moore anyway)

The down side is minimal and the upside is extraordinary if he somehow manages to find the touch he had in 05-06 or even 06-07. I think he would be a hard worker and really compete after spending the last few years in the minors. Lastly, the team needs a shot in the arm after struggling on the road trip and what better way to get the team jump started for the stretch run than by bringing back a fan favorite for the first home game in almost a month. The fans would love it, the players would love it, cheechoo would be a very serviceable 4th line winger, and the cost would be minimal.

Maybe I am too bias toward cheechoo but I think he has spent his time in the minors and at age 31 with this team needing something to get itself over the hump, why not bring him back. Doug Wilson even gave Claude Lemiuex a shot... why not Cheechoo.

Does anyone have insight as to whether this option has been discussed internally, and if it hasnt then why not, I would love to know.
