Ovechkin and the Capitals

Stay connected for news and updates

Alright, I know that some people might discard this immediately, but I was just wondering what people think of the idea of Washington trading Ovechkin. Before you call me an idiot, or whatever creative insult you have, hear me out. Washington's been turned into a complete defense-first team, not an optimal environment for a player like Ovechklin, and he's not playing very many minutes each night (only 13 against New York tonight!). I know he's a franchise player, and they'll never be able to get equal value for him in a trade, but Washington definitely needs the cap space, and Ovechkin's contract is obviously the biggest they have.

To summarize:

-Ovechkin does not play D well, and is not exactly thriving in Washington right now

-Washington could get a SHITLOAD for Ovechkin in a trade (could see Washington's head coach wanting a good defensive center like Richards)

-Washington could certainly use the cap space taken up by Ovechkin's contract

So yeah, that's my schpiel, pardon the clumsy sentences, but I'm half watching the Kings game and typing this. If you guys have any thoughts, I'd appreciate hearing them.
