  • Looks like Joe Thornton and Rick Nash could be playing on the same line next season after all as Swiss National League club HC Davos reports the two have agreed to take their talents to Switzerland if the NHL season is delayed or canceled. You'll recall the two played together in Davos during the 2004-05 lockout, winning both the Swiss League championship and the Spengler Cup. [HC Davos]
  • So how likely is it Thornton will start next season in Switzerland? Tyler Dellow, Brad Gardner and Dirk Hoag break down available information about the NHLPA's counter-proposal, including a video press conference from Donald Fehr. [mc79hockey] [Defending Big D] [On the Forecheck]
  • J.J. is skeptical about the players' proposal being the massive concession some in the media are portraying it as. [Winging It In Motown]
  • Count Gary Bettman among those not too pleased with the NHLPA's proposal. The commissioner claims the two sides are still "far apart." [CBC]
  • One interesting tidbit that has leaked out: under the NHLPA's proposed collective bargaining agreement, teams would be allowed to trade cap space. [Puck Daddy]
  • Jeff Angus and Mike Colligan debate whether there should be restrictions on contract length or structure. [The Hockey Writers]
  • If you only read hockey articles written by Eric T. or Ellen Etchingham, you're doing it right. This one by Eric looks at a newly-devised quality of competition metric that uses ice time as its base statistic instead of +/-, Corsi or Corsi Rel. The results are intriguing. [NHL Numbers]
  • Great post by Thomas Drance on the one-year anniversary of former NHLer Rick Rypien's unfortunate passing. [Canucks Army]
  • Finally, here's one piece of non-CBA news: Philadelphia signed Wayne Simmonds to a 6-year, $23 million contract extension. [Broad Street Hockey]
