Head-to-head scoring chances

201314g52_h2h

  • As has been their M.O. throughout this stretch of forward injuries, the Sharks played a really low-event game from a scoring chances perspective, one the Wild were more than happy to be dragged into.
  • Matt Nieto had a phenomenal game, and especially thrived after being moved onto the first line with Thornton and Pavelski. San Jose outchanced Minnesota by 4 when he was on the ice against Ryan Suter, which is pretty damn impressive considering that's a 21-year-old rookie going up against one of the best defensemen in the league.
  • All three pairings had a strong night but those are some particularly impressive numbers from Vlasic and Demers. Which is sort of why it remains curious why Vlasic was once again last on the blueline in ice time but it presumably has to do with either an underlying injury or a desire to ease up on his minutes a bit prior to the Olympics.
