Head-to-head scoring chances

201314g44_h2h

  • Especially compared to what went down Sunday night in Chicago, this was a pretty boring game and the scoring chances bear that out. Just 21 combined chances between the two teams, including only 15 at even-strength.
  • Bizarre quirk: Shea Weber was on the ice for all 15 of those even-strength chances and for 20 of 21 chances overall. He played a lot, and played almost exclusively behind the only Predators forwards with offensive ability and against the only Sharks forwards with offensive ability.
  • This was likely Joe Thornton and Brent Burns' worst game of the season and it couldn't have come at a worse time given the team's injury situation up front. If those two aren't generating anything, it becomes awfully difficult to win games given the state of the other three lines.
  • Granted, I thought Marleau, Pavelski and Nieto were very good together after being united on a regular basis somewhere around the midpoint of this game. Nieto in particular has really come on lately after a two-week stretch of ineffectiveness. He might have been the Sharks' best forward in this game.
