We hear this every year, "The Sharks window is closing." "They don't have much time left to fight for the Cup."
I've thought this has been bullshit for a while now. At first it was because I felt they were exaggerating effects of aging on the Sharks core. Even when people said the Sharks prospect pool was bad, I also looked back at their history of drafting late bloomers (both in draft round and age.) Then DW just went all "FUCK REBUILDING, F5 KEY TO MAXIMUM POWER!!!" Trading old and slow pylons for picks. Early round picks at that.
If you are still a little worried, here is a list of all Sharks players that will be under 30 at the beginning of next season.
Brent Burns 29
Jason Demers 26
Thomas Hertl 20
Matt Irwin 26
Matt Nieto 21
Alex Stalock 27
Marc Eduard Vlasic 27
Justin Braun 27
I went with players that had started at least for most of 1 season, with the exceptions Hamilton and Tennyson who I have heard a lot of good things about, and Stalock because he is a goalie.
That is a pretty impressive group of players if I do say so myself. And I didn't even mention the prospects like Meuller who haven't seen any time with the Sharks yet.
So while lesser GMs say "fuck it, blow it up and start over." DW has made sure that we keep a good prospect of young players coming in.
