Yesterday morning the San Jose Sharks organization announced that they are holding auditions for a brand new "ICE TEAM" that would be implemented this upcoming season. First and foremost as human being, and secondly as a hockey fan, I am extremely disappointed. I go to hockey game for the hockey. I don't go to hockey games to be distracted by these ridiculous cheerleaders-on-ice. It's an unfortunate trend that hockey clubs have been adopting lately and now apparently the Sharks are following suit. How can the Sharks be okay with employing an "ICE TEAM" where these young adults will be portrayed as dehumanized, sexual objects? If you don't agree with me, take a look at this extremely attractive young man who is believed to be a Sharks ICE TEAM member.
Unnamed Sexual Object
First off look at his ridiculous outfit. I can only imagine how vulnerable he must feel. Although he isn't showing too much skin, far too many things are left to the imagination. While instantly looking at his appearance, the only thing on the viewer's mind is the image of his ripped, athletic body that for all we know has massive and bulging muscles everywhere. We'll be looking at this poor young man, thinking of him as eye-candy, while forgetting that he himself is a PERSON. We'll be lost in his beautiful eyes, forgetting the fact that he probably has a family. It's unfortunate that this young man was once a boy who grew up in a society that taught him to get by on his looks rather than his intelligence. Look at the way he is holding that hockey stick. It's completely inappropriate and I cannot believe that the Sharks forced him to do that.
Shame on you Hasso Plattner. Shame on you Doug Wilson. Shame on you Patrick Marleau.
