2012 UFA Targets: Should the Sharks sign Alexei Ponikarovsky?

Sharks round out 2012 draft with Christophe Lalancette, Daniel O'Regan, Clifford Watson and Joakim Ryan

After picking Tomas Hertl and Chris Tierney with their first two selections of the entry draft, the Sharks dealt their own 2013 fourth-rounder as well as Tampa Bay's 7th to the Blackhawks for the 109th overall pick which they used to select Christophe Lalancette, a skilled and undersized winger from the QMJHL. Hockey's Future describes him as "a skilled playmaker, [whose] on-ice vision immediately established him as a valuable contributor at both ends of the ice. Though he needs to continue to add strength to his frame, Lalancette's versatility and hard work serves him well." He scored 47 points in 63 games for Acadie-Bathurst this past season. With the 138th overall pick, the Sharks picked Daniel O'Regan, a (I kid you not) German-born center from a Massachusetts high school committed to Boston University next season. Corey Pronman, who ranked him 103rd, called him "one of the NTDP's better forwards after joining them late." O'Regan scored 4 points in 6 games at the under-18 world championships. The Sharks picked 6'2", 200-pound defenseman Clifford Watson from Sioux City of the USHL with their 6th round pick and rounded out the draft with another defenseman, Joakim Ryan of Cornell, 198th overall in the 7th round.

Scott Arniel to take spot as SJ assistant coach?

According to Roger Millions from Rogers Sportsnet, @RogMillions on Twitter, it looks like former Columbus Blue Jackets Head Coach Scott Arniel is "likely" to take a job as one of Todd McLellan's assistants this year. Arniel coached 123 games with the Blue Jackets, going 45-60-18 in that time. He was fired mid-way through this past season when the Blue Jackets were a dismal 11-25-5. Hiring the former BJ's coach would give McLellan an assistant with experience as both a coach and a former NHL player with over 700 games of experience. Any thoughts on the possible new coach?
