Wednesday Chum Bucket: Defending Doug Wilson

  • A compelling defense of Doug Wilson and Mike Gillis, two GMs whose teams are struggling to keep their heads above water in the playoff race at the moment. "In praise of the Sharks and the Canucks, neither team has done too much to affect their core despite having not won titles. Philadelphia and Washington both panicked and abandoned what they had built." [Canucks Army]
  • Drew Doughty buried his first of the season last night which means Ryane Clowe now leads the league in the all-important categories of "name containing the most superfluous vowels" and "most shots on goal without scoring." [Mercury News]
  • Speaking of Doughty, Darryl Sutter compared him to Brian Campbell in a derogatory fashion. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense but it's still hilarious. [Pro Hockey Talk]
  • More from Clowe about blown chances and taking shifts on the third line with Scott Gomez and James Sheppard earlier in the year. [Working the Corners]
  • Despite his zero goals, Clowe is still drawing interest from rival GMs as the trade deadline approaches. Here's Elliotte Friedman on one of the reasons a deal hasn't happened yet: "The biggest concern about Clowe is not that he hasn't scored this season. It's if he's more injured than we realize. The winger left Saturday's loss to Los Angeles with a shoulder injury -- which may have confirmed potential suitors' fears. They're nervous about it." [CBC]
  • Unsurprisingly, there are also rumors that the Rangers are interested in reuniting Dan Boyle with John Tortorella. If a deal does go down, here's hoping Doug Wilson spends a good amount of time hagelin over the price. (Get it? Because haggling is sometimes a part of negotiations but also the Sharks could really use New York winger Carl Hagelin.) [LeBrun]
  • Katie Strang interviews Logan Couture. [ESPN]
  • The Sharks will face the Oilers tonight, who should really trade Ryan Whitney regardless of their shot at the playoffs, argues the great Jonathan Willis. [Cult Of Hockey]
  • Also from the Journal: power play opportunities have been on a precipitous decline since the beginning of the season. [Cult Of Hockey]
  • One of the best hockey blogs around asks whether Adam Oates is handcuffing Alexander Ovechkin with his lineup decisions. [Japers' Rink]
