And This Is Acceptable How?
Tonight's 5-2 loss to the Stars in Game Two of their Western Conference Semi-Finals matchup was dreadful. Constant fumbling with the puck, especially in the defensive zone. An unwillingness to physically engage Dallas on any kind of consistent basis. A string of missed scoring opportunities because while Player A was doing their best to set things for Player B, Player B was already in full retreat mode. Shaky goaltending. At least it was a team effort.
Of course the series isn't over yet. That said, if they lose Tuesday night in Dallas it will be. The Sharks have to look within themselves and answer the question why both individually and collectively they tanked at the Tank tonight. They know exactly how Dallas is going to play, and they should know by now that the referees are going to allow the Stars to continue clutching and grabbing and holding the Sharks to their heart's content every time they're in the Dallas zone. Nothing a few good elbows wouldn't cure, even if it means taking the penalty. The point is that along with the need to start making basic plays, such as not handing the puck to your opponent time and again, they have to start playing angry. They should be very angry right now. At themselves. If not, then there is something seriously wrong with this hockey club requiring major off-season work to eradicate. But until that is proven to be a necessity, San Jose needs to find the answer within as to why they are handing a team with which they are at least an equal if not superior this playoff series without so much as a whimper.

clutching and grabbing
Hold and grabbing the Sharks players?
I thought the power play disparity spoke for itself last night, no?
Nice site.

Yeah
how bad was that call early in the 3rd. Stars had a man go to the Box on probably a bad call, so at the next opportunity the Refs gave a penalty to the Sharks to makeup for the blown 1st penalty. This inevitably led to a Stars goal (cause the Sharks PK=goal for some reason lately). Stars 3, Sharks 2. Man, for all the blown penalties against the Sharks in these 2 games, the Refs never gave a makeup call against the Stars; so why did they give one to the Stars here? Not to blame the Refs for the Sharks losing but this definitely helped fuel their loss.

Officiating isn't the reason you're down 0-2

I'd like to think the Stars power play unit had something to do with that goal. But alas, I guess it was all San Jose's doing.

Not sure if I agree with you on the issue of the blown calls against San Jose.
But after Modano was whistled off for a penalty that had more do with the bad ice conditions than anything, the power play count on the night was 5-0 in favor of the Sharks (with each of the first four calls that led to power plays legit calls, IMO)
Combine the 5-0 power play count with the opinion that the Modano call was marginal at best, and you shouldn't be surprised that Ehrhoff was whistled off on an iffy call.
"Not to blame the Refs for the Sharks losing but this definitely helped fuel their loss."
It had nothing to do with the loss.
San Jose's lackluster play combined with Dallas dialing it up a few notches in the third is what led to the loss. Well, that and some missed opportunities in the first two periods by San Jose.
They convert some of those misses into goals, and they likely would have taken a three goal lead going into the final frame last night.

Okay.
Oh stop it. Don't come around here pandering fans. Of course you're going to justify the crap calls, and the momentum shifting brought on by the refs. You're a stars fan, we expect you not to agree. What you didn't have to do, though, is register here, and give us your unwanted two cents.
No sharks fan is going to agree with you, period. Why bother?
Go to the stars blog and interject your opinion. It will probably be digested a little better there than it would be here. I think you know that already.

Forgive Me...
"Of course you're going to justify the crap calls, and the momentum shifting brought on by the refs."
I'm not justifying the calls on their own merits. The call against Modano was poor. The makeup call against Ehrhoff was even worse.
But sometimes in sports, you have to fight your way through those kind of bad breaks. And you can't excuse poor coverage on the penalty kill because of what you or I perceive to be a bad call.
As for shifting momentum, I think that happened on Richards' game tying goal, not because of the penalty on Ehrhoff.
"What you didn't have to do, though, is register here, and give us your unwanted two cents."
Forgive me for my dissenting viewpoint then. Some people appreciate contrarian stances in the spirit of civil discourse, which is all I was after.
I just happen to think that bad officiating doesn't excuse bad play, and vice versa.
If the Stars go shorthanded because of a questionable call and San Jose takes advantage of said call to go ahead and go on to win Game 3, you'll hear me echo the same sentiments tomorrow night.

Okay
This, we will see. Like I said, no matter what you say, you're pretty much throwing logs on the fire at this point, at least in my view. Forgive me for saying that your opinion is unwanted, it isn't. But at the same time, of course we're going to see things differently.
