Throwing This Out There

Hmm...
I feel like, even though I'd be disappointed to see him go, that at this point I wouldn't be surprised. I feel like he's a great coach, and a fantastic asset to this team, but for how long can you be the scapegoat of your unclutch players. I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted out, somewhat. It just sucks to have all the fans blame him because people like Joe Thorton (who historically has not gotten it done in the playoffs), continues not to get it done in the playoffs.
I'd like to see him stay another year, but I think the opinion I gather from other fans is that it's all his fault and he's the reason we can't get past the second round.

In many ways...
...I think Quennville is just about as effective a coach as Ron Wilson is. I think the difference is, he's more a of a 'player's coach' than Ron Wilson is. While
I can't speak to how much of the blame Wilson bears for San Jose's playoff failures the past few years. But I do think that sometimes replacing a coach that many regard to be grating with one that is considered to be a player's coach could be just the breath of fresh air that San Jose's dressing room needs.

Probably more of the same
Remember, Quenneville was the head coach of the perennial regular season juggernauts/playoff imploders the St. Louis Blues. Sound familiar?
I'm of two minds here. On one hand, I don't think you replace Ron Wilson unless he's the main problem, and you have somebody clearly better ready to step in. On the other, the team's lack of preparation in the playoffs and bi-polar play throughout the season seem to indicate that, at the least, the players have gotten too comfortable with the way things are.
And I sure as hell don't like the revisionism that's going on with both Sharks fans and the Sharks organization: that somehow winning two games for pride and stretching game 6 to 4 OTs after putting themselves essentially out of the playoffs save a miracle comeback is proof of the team's heart and ability to win when it counts. I wanted both Ron and Doug Wilson to be still pissed off that they lost the series, not talking about how proud they were of the team's character. I wanted some indication that Ron Wilson could have better prepared the team, and made smarter adjustments, against Dallas, not bragging about his regular season record and a rant against the media.
If that's truly how they feel, then this franchise is f#*%ed next year.
