Postgame: Worst Night of the Year

Someone said I should start writing these again, and I'll admit, it's a fun outlet, so I'm going to try; unfortunately, analogies to the San Jose Sharks performance tonight aside, I'm just not in it right now. My laptop is making odd noises when it's on for too long, the Sharks were absolutely destroyed by the Dallas Stars, and all in all, I'm feelin' kinda grumpy.

Suffice it to say, I'm disappointed in the team's effort tonight. After three goals, my hope was waning, but the real turning point for me was what would have been a five-minute power play if the Sharks could manage to keep themselves out of the box for more than that amount of time. Or maybe if the Power Play unit(s) could produce a goal in these critical situations. Or maybe the top line in hockey could start acting like they're supposed to. Or maybe --

Yaknow, there's nothing but excuses here. Team Teal was flat, and they got the ending they earned for the work they put in. Hopefully this, since the previous losses could not, will spark something in the boys from San Jose. Maybe the Canucks will face a Sharks team worth fighting. Maybe this is a pre-playoff nosedive that'll give them the drive they need in the postseason.

But for now, it's a triple dose of awful hockey and a disappointing way to play on after three great comeback games. I can't even pinpoint a single problem to harp on, there were so many errors on the ice over the last three losses; I can only hope that Thursday and Vancouver are, in fact, another time and place.

OT: Fantasy Baseball

I was just wondering if anybody on FTF had any interest in doing a fantasy baseball league, or if there was already a league set up that I could still join. I know hockey season is still in full swing (and that the Sharks will be in the Stanley Cup Finals), but baseball season is right around the corner and I thought I would see if anyone else shared my obsession for fantasy sports. If you want me to set one up, let me know. It would be through ESPN with a live, snake draft. League would be custom, so scoring, roster size, etc. would all be whatever everyone wants. Let me know your thoughts.

So most informed fans have become aware of the Ovechkin/Campbell incident the other day. From my point of view, AO did us quite a favor.

Let me clarify that I am not an advocate of one player injuring another for whatever reason. But if I had to pick a player that I would want out for the rest of the season and into the playoffs from the 'Hawks it would go Kane and Johnny-boy easily number one and two, but then Brian Campbell. Quite possibly the glue that holds that team together, the former Shark is out for the remainder of the season. The Blackhawks will be missing him most on the powerplay, as he was a "quarterback" of sorts-their Dan Boyle. I can't help but think that our path to the number 1 seed just got a wee bit easier...

What people have been saying on why Miller will win the Vezina..

Yeah... he might be the only obstacle to Nabby for winning the Vezina..

First off, the League says the Olympics and Playoffs do not influence the voting... but honestly, someone will remember Miller for his USA performance in the Olympics. I mean, can anyone really forget how he stood on his head till the very end?

Next thing is he is currently near the top at all the important goalie statistics (GAA, Wins, and SV%). He is currently second in GAA (currently at 2.16), seventh in wins at 37, and first in SV% (.931). The stats seem to line up in the favor of Miller, all of them except for wins (which Nabby almost always leads the league in...)

And the third reason is... well... Eastern Conference Bias. Looking at the past winners... how many times have the Western Conference won the Vezina Trophy? A shocking 3 times since the 1990-91 season. That's saying out of 18 seasons, the Western Conference won it 3 times. Sure there was Dominik Hasek... but still, facts are facts.

Yet, why should Nabby win? I mean, he seems to be "less superior" to Miller in stats and in the odds. So how can he win?

Can we say one thing? The Western Conference is MUCH SUPERIOR to the Eastern Conference in oh... everything except the Capitals... I'm not being mean or anything, but they stink as bad as rotten eggs. Washington currently has 101 points.. while second place, Pittsburgh, has 87 points (HEY! SID THE KID'S NUMBER!!!). San Jose is ahead by 2 points of Chicago, who is 5 points ahead of Vancouver.. a lot closer than 14 points...

Also, the Sharks seem to take less shots than the other teams. They really limit teams to not as many shots as they can (there are some exceptions), and seem to keep possession of the puck (not as of recently though).

And someone gave me the lame excuse that Miller was the reason why Buffalo is #3 in the East... well isn't Nabby one of the reasons the Sharks are #1 in the West?

Another side point, the MVP is "supposed" to go to the player that is the most valuable to his team... so then why the the most point getter almost always get it? I think a person like Patty should be nominated for it, cause well, he's just so great offensively and defensively (if Datsyuk wins the Lady Byng, I swear I would be dog-gone mad...)

HI welcome back to Dropping the Gloves. There hasn't been one in... a REALLY LONG time. Reasons why it went on a hiatus?

I have a life (stupid bloggers). Seriously, who has a blog?
School and such.
I'm kinda lazy.

So this post will not cover EVERY fight I missed, just the cool ones. And away we gooooooo!

First off Kent Huskins! Okay this isn't an amazing fight I just thought it was really funny.

Huskins is not a fighter, Boll is. Not much needs to be said about the fight. Boll destroys Huskins... Or you could look at it the way YouTube comments do. Huskins is the one with a Cup so in this case Huskins really got the better of the fight.

Jody Shelley vs. Eric Godard (again)!

Remember when Shelley did this to Godard last year? Well he did it again sorta. He didn't kick the crap out of Godard but he definitely got the better.

Gigantor Douglas Murray vs. Ben Eager

Crankshaft hasn't been fighting a whole lot this season but he's still a scary man. In this fight he still had his visor on and tried to take it off but couldn't. I guess Eager was (wait for it...) eager.

Frazer McLaren vs. Daniel Carcillo

A great hockey fight. Frazer is a tough guy, can't wait to see more of him in San Jose. Also note that Carcillo tried to take him down by the legs. Frazer knee'd him. I thought that was funny.

Marc-Edouard Vlassic and Daniel Briere... do something

...just LOL

Frazer McLaren vs. George Parros

Awesome to see Frazer take on mustache Parros. Parros may have won the battle, but it's nice to see the rookie hold his own.

Ryane Clowe vs. Jason Strudwick

Clowe has been fighting a lot this year and in this fight he got Strudwick good.

Jody Shelley vs. Cam Janssen

This is my favorite fight of Jody Shelley in a Sharks uniform. 87 seconds of great hockey fighting. I got tired from watching it.

Torrey Mitchell vs. Rene Bourqe

Funny to see Mitchell so fired up. I'd say he got the edge in that fight. Best part though? The scoreboard.

Ryane Clowe vs. George Parros

This might be the best fight of this post. Parro's mustache gets beat up by Ryane Clowe's fist.

Brad Staubitz vs. Nick Boynton

Staubitz... he can fight.

Jody Shelley vs. Colton Orr

Down goes Orr! Down goes Orr! What a way to end his career as a Shark. *tear*

Like, in English. Last time I went, there was a bunch of mumbo jumbo numbers, it was like I was reading French. Whenever I asked anyone for help, they'd get all pissy.

Anyways, I'll be in Vegas by this time tomorrow, and I could use a few bucks. If the San Jose Sharks are a lock, I might as well make a few bucks in the process. Is there a proper way to do this?

For Heaven's Sake, Rest the Olympians!

With the Sharks assured of at least a no. 2 seed in the playoffs, why isn't Todd McClellan resting the Olympians, and reducing minutes for Rob Blake, so all are in top form for the playoffs. This should be done now, giving players 1-2 games off on a rotating basis, with all back to full time for a week before the playoffs to get any rust off. An added advantage would be to get an intense look at the younger players on the cusp of the playoff roster.

Don't sacrifice the playoffs for another President's Cup!

yes, YOU!! Have you ever woken up 7:30 in the morning to a man jacking off in the bed next to you?!? Have you ever had a roommate that thinks he's an informed sharks fan?? Have you ever told him how much he is not an informed fan of the Sharks?!?

...have you ever just wanted to vent awful roommate situations? Well then, this is the post for YOU!!

Well first off, let me introduce myself. I am Youdamanrp and I am a freshman at Sacramento State living in the dorms. I am an avid reader of this awesome blog and this is my first FanPost, so I apologize if this is just so wrong you don't want to read past this line.

A little background on my roommate, Tom: he has ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysmorphia, and I'm pretty sure he abuses the Special education program here (that's fucked up). We both came from San Jose and we are both (supposedly) Sharks fans, although, Tom's fanhood is questionable. He still thought Cheechoo was on the sharks until the olympic break... wow... When we aquired Heatly, I had to inform him because he was a week late on the news, the next day he gets his mom to buy him a Heatly jersey. I would then ask him what team Heatly was from... he guessed Edmonton. I told him he's from Ottowa and he says they have "sucked for the past 13 years!" 13... really? I don't know about 13... such a strange number to pull out of your ass, I'm pretty sure they went to the cup finals with the most explosive top lines in the league. He thinks Blake is awful wearing the C, and that Marleau would be "hella much better!" (notice the incorect use of "hella" and the fact that hes saying it is a mistake) if he were wearing the C because then he would shoot more... uh huh...

So as you can see he is just a dumbass. and I'm pretty sure I can't sleep with him beatin' it off 4 feet away from me at night. If any of you have some fantastic roommate stories, bad roommate stories, or even bashing my dumbass roommate, feel free to share.
