Mike Moore gets two year extension
According to capgeek.com, Mike Moore has signed a two year contract extension worth $1.25MM. The cap hit sits at $512,000 for a full NHL season, starting in 2010. As mymclife pointed out below, the second year of the deal is one-way, so he's guaranteed NHL pay (thanks Evilducks) that year. I still stand by the notion that the one way deal means that San Jose believes he'll be in the NHL in 2011-2012.
Moore is known as a physical, stay at home defenseman. By most accounts, he would have seen some time with the big club this year if not for an injury that took a good part of his season from him. In 38 AHL games this year, he has 1 goal, 11 assists, and is a +5 on the season. Moore is the Sharks 9th ranked prospect according to Hockey's Future.
This is interesting because Wilson usually doesn't negotiate contracts midseason, but maybe he has different rules when it comes to AHL players.
I'll update this post as moore (ugh) news comes out of Worcester.

Logan Couture, Great Prospect
When you are drafted only 8 players after NHL 10 cover boy and (insert taxi cab joke of choice here) Patrick Kane, there's bound to be some hype around your arrival. That hype is bound to turn to pressure when you're compared favorably to NHL legend Steve Yzerman and are one of only three players selected in the top ten by your team in the decade.
Oh yeah, and you're 17. Good luck with all that.
Couture wasn't ready to succeed at the NHL level when he was selected 9th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2007 NHL entry draft. That's actually to be expected, considering the team he was drafted by. Although it's something that happens mostly in the later rounds, the Sharks love drafting project players. Players who aren't great skaters (Joe Pavelski), players who don't accelerate well or struggle with consistency (Ryane Clowe), or need to add some size to their frame (Marc-Edouard Vlasic). Well, Couture needed to work on most all of those things heading back to juniors.

So, maybe this analogy doesn't really work all that well (the AHL Sharks aren't a drug abusing teenager who emulate their father, or the NHL Sharks in this case), but my boss is standing over my shoulder and I don't have time to dilly dally. It works, and it's hilarious.
The little Sharks, like the big Sharks, are faced with a must win game six after falling behind the Bruins 2-0 to start the series.
This is going to be a short pre-game, but don't let that fool you. This one is crucial for Worcester. Win, and you get to play game seven back in Providence. Lose, and, well, you lose.
If the Sharks can clean up their game a bit, they should be able to push this series to seven. Although Marchand and Rask will try to get under the WorSharks' collective skin, it's going to be more important to play smart than to give in to the nefarious under-workings of this series.
I'd love to see the Sharks be the first team in AHL history to go down 2-0 in consecutive series only to come back and win both. If they do, let's hope the next series isn't as nail bite-y.
Go Sharks!
[P.S. Big shout out to 4rilla, FTF's resident Worcesterite. Worcesteron? Worcerteran? Regardless, he's at the game, and he'll be uploading pics and vids and other abbreviated medias later]

We recently commented on Worcester's defensive miscues, citing a need to improve defensively in order to make this series competitive. Either the Worcester Sharks read this blog, or the coaches saw the same things we did (TCY's ego goes with option one, TCY goes with... toss up). The AHL Sharks' defense came up huge against Providence in game four, earning a 2-2 series tie and a Thomas Greiss shutout in the process.

I have never seen a team thrive under pressure like the Worcester Sharks do. Down 2-0 in yet another series, Worcester's offense exploded last night. Forwards T.J. Fox, Jamie McGinn, Andrew Desjardins, Riley Armstrong and Defensemen Patrick Traverse all scored for Worcester; the five goals were the most scored against Bruins' goalie Tuukka Rask in these playoffs.
However, Rask doesn't have off nights often, so Worcester is going to have to step up their defensive game if they want to complete their second comeback of this postseason.

Well, this sucks.
In all three of the Sharks' NHL/AHL 2009 playoff series, the Sharks have dropped the first two games to put themselves in an early hole. The AHL Sharks, however, we able to recover from this defecit in the first round, winning the next four games against the Wolf Pack to advance.
Is there more magic in the tank? We'll find out tonight against Providence.

So, instead of blogging incessantly about what Doug Wilson should do during the offseason when we don't even know what he's thinking, we've decided to focus on some of the good things happening in the Sharks organization.
That's right boys and girls... Worcester. It's kind of sad that we have to focus on our minor league affiliate when the big Sharks should be playing in the second round, but hell, it's better than nothing. And because of injuries at the NHL level, you've come to know many of these baby Sharks already.
