All things considered, Sharks fans living in the Bay Area have a pretty good thing going. A good hockey team in a non-traditional market means paying far less than fans in Toronto or Chicago have to shell out for similar seats.
In a Vivid Seats report, the Sharks rank 24th in median ticket prices for the 2015-16 season. San Jose’s median ticket price is higher than that of the Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes and Arizona Coyotes.
The only surprise on that list is the Red Wings, whose hockey history is unavoidable if you’ve spent any time watching hockey the past…well, I suppose ever. They’re a vocal bunch, those octopus throwing fanatics.
A note that these are median ticket prices, meaning, and I quote:
denoting or relating to a value or quantity lying at the midpoint of a frequency distribution of observed values or quantities, such that there is an equal probability of falling above or below it.
Just to make it clear that these aren’t the average prices. Still, Sharks fans are pretty lucky when it comes to how much they have to pay to see their team. Now, they aren’t Ducks fans lucky, but who is?
